Pretty neat, would be cool if it is actually true.

Lear Wanna Be said:Not sure if this would be the same bird or not, but here is my story. I only heard this story from someone who was friends with a guy that told the story. It may not be true, but other information that I got second hand from the same guy turned out to be true.
So, as everybody probably knows by now, the F-117 program started in the late 70s/early 80s. The Air Force was able to keep it quiet for a long time. Then one day an A-7D flamed out on take-off and went through the lobby of the Hyatt in Indianapolis. Reporters started doing some digging and could not find much history on an LV tailcode A-7. More and more digging revealed a lot of irregular information...i.e. funding, where it was coming from and where it was going. About this same time my buddy had told me about a friend of his that was based at a fairly secret base in NV. He was a mech and working on a secret aircraft. He described it to me in the best detail he could, having had it explained to him. His description was pretty good compared to the real deal when the Air Force finally revealed the F-117. So, very creditable IMHO.
So this same guy told me about another story from the same mech. Except for now this guy was not working on the project in question and only could describe things that he really heard and not saw. So, they were still based at Tonopah Test Range, NV. They were confined to their quarters from say 10:00 p.m until 2:00 a.m (can't really remember the exact time period). So, a few times a week he would hear what could only be described as ripping paper, but very loud and moving fast. Then it was gone. Can't remember if he said whether he heard it return or not. This was in the early 90s, right around the time the SR-71 was retired the first time. There were rumors of a hypersonic spy plane. We probably all remember the stories of white puffs and bangs in the sky. Some magazines were calling it the Aurora. Well, nothing has been revealed as of yet. However, I do know that the F-117s were moved to Holloman AFB shortly after this story was told to me. Also, this guy has never told me something that did not turn at to be true.
So, could this be the same plane? Lots of Janet flights still go to Tonopah everyday. I hate to be the one spreading rumors, but it would be nice to have somebody who might know pipe in. Anybody know anything that they care to share?
MAGNUM!! said:What's the mechanic's name? I know some people that want to talk to him. Jackasses like him pop off to be cool to their buds, but leaking programs like this is a f***ing crime.

Lear Wanna Be said:Apparently our government only hides it from us civilians.
Lear Wanna Be said:I'm not confused at all. But at some point everything should become public.
Lear Wanna Be said:…………There are many ways of looking at it, but whether it is airplanes, spaceships, or aliens, by letting the cat out of the bag....it can be used as a detorant also.
Lear Wanna Be said:Seems like so many around here missed their calling. We sure do have a lot of english teachers on this board. Guess I better spell check for now on.
Lear Wanna Be said:Fox-Tree, seems you might still be suffering from your military induced brain washing. Let's not turn this into a pissing match, OK? But how much 'Classified" stuff were you privy to? I bet a lot. Looking back, what precentage do you think really was that big of a deal? Now I am a civilian, but I have done a lot of things in and around the military that most civilians never get to do or see. Have accidentally been shown "classfied", well lets just say stuff, on numerous occasions. Everytime, I thought to myself what is the big deal. Seems the other folks thought the same thing. I was never subject to a debrief with a bunch of "suits" and sworn to never tell anybody. The thing that cracked me up the most was when I got to fly the F-18 and F-14 sims. Only ever got guns and rockets. Now come on, every magazine out there will tell you how far a AIM-7 or AIM-9 will go. Or how far off bore sight you can shoot. They also guard the top speed of fighters as one of their best kept secrets (mach 2.5 for the F-15 is advertised). Is that close and did you ever really get to find out? Well, nobody cares how fast they go at altitude. The key is how fast they can go while hugging the ground. Maybe some brilliant enemy can work it backwards and figure that out. I don't know.
Anyway, yes DETERRENT! And we are not only talking about spy planes.
