I was the proud owner of an FBO in central Utah. We operated an air ambulance service along with a charter dept and my favorite was the soaring operation. I would do it all over again if I was able to. I flew a wide variety of aircraft and loved teaching others to fly. I sold the operation to pursue other flying opportunities. I make more money now but I am not necessarly more happy. I miss all the different aircraft I used to fly and best of all they were all mine or under my direct control.
I think other people might appreciate hearing from other owner operators and what got them into their operation. It is not easy to operate your own aviation business and make a living. When you have employees it brings on a whole new set of responsibilities and headaches. It usually takes years to build a good reputation and have a business that will support you and your family. When the business is successful it is very rewarding.
Maybe other pilots who have been furloughed will become motivated to start a new and interesting aviation business after reading this thread. Who knows???????????
