I have had several people Private Message me regarding my avatar. I usually respond personally when people PM me, but since numerous people have inquired I thought this response would be better.

This picture (used for my avatar) was sent to me by a friend that seems to have quite a few interesting photos similar to this. As far as the authenticity, I have been told this is an actual photo taken of an obvious non-normal "situation". I used a jpeg wizard program to shrink and cut the whole picture down for this website. The actual picture I have is real in my opinion. As far as who, when, where, or why... I have no idea.

Anyone out there care to share what they may know of this photo?

I change my Avatar every 3 mos, wait till you see my next one...

Looks like a DC-8. Although this doesn't look like an Emery plane, this happened to an Emery crew in Dayton, OH a few years ago. They did a great job in getting the thing back on the ground safely.

Cool shot!

Cheers!

I know the photo has been shrunk but look for the flaps, can anyone see any? Are the DC-8’s flaps very prominent when hung?

I can’t recall?

Just asking...

From what I recall that pic was taken in MIA. The plane took off of 9L and the door flew open. They came around for 27R (I think) and landed. Was about 2-3 years ago.

Hello,
An interesting pic to say the least...It looks like a DC-8-62 that belonged to TAMPA Air Cargo from Columbia. And, I might add it's not the first time that this scene has been had at MIA. A cargo operator flying a CV-880 in the 1970's did the same thing. It too ended in an uneventful landing.

It almost looks like a digitally enhanced photo of the DC-10 that crashed (cartwheeled on the runway) at Sioux City, Iowa, a few years ago.

No it doesn't.

And no it doesn't ALMOST look like it either.

O.K. - Insert your own joke here.

Will the cargo door open on SushiSlayers avatar? It looks like a partial deployment already.

I personally think that SushiSlayer has the best avatar I've ever seen; maybe even better than the Anna Kournikova pics that I've seen on this board. Any hints on where we might find more pics of that woman.....uhhh, I mean airplane?

I agree, it does not look anything like it. Big difference between a DC-8 and a DC-10 and I wish 1989 was a few years ago.

LOL!!

Fly Safe!!

:D

So I was a "little" off...

Ok, ok. I can admit when I'm wrong. As much as I love airplanes, there are very few (commercial or ga) that I can easily identify. And yes, you are right too that 1989 was not a "few" years ago. For some reason I was thinking it was '98 when it happened though.

Time for a change

Gives new meaning to "in need of some twin time".

If you guys could have only seen the avatar that got me kicked off of flightinfo. It lasted for about a day, then my posts were deleted. But I think it made a lot of viewers happy in it's short existance.

Rice,

Can you purchase bock time with them?
