There is a lot of hiring going on at Avantair. They are looking for 2,500 tt with 1,000 multi for Captains and 1,500tt and 500 multi for co-pilots, attitude is also extremely important. Captains are at 40k and co-pilots are at 25k to start. There is profit sharing, bonus, and overtime on top of the salary. Yearly increases in salary are built in. Pilots meeting the requirements may be hired into the left seat. Training is combined with some at Flight Safety and some in the aircraft. The company is growing fast with 12 more Avanti deliveries in 2005, as well as several new jet deliveries. The company has significant financial backing and strong management. Current hiring is approximately 16 per month. The Piaggio is a great aircraft, soon to have the Proline 21 suite. (July) Performance is similiar to a Citation V with a cabin more similiar to the Excel. Book says 2,850 for takeoff, we use 4,000 as a minimum and will go as short as 3,500 on a case by case basis. As far as baggage, there is 45 cubic feet in the cargo area (aft of the cabin) and 22 cubic feet in the closet. Full size, fully enclosed, stand up bathroom as well. Avantair is certified under 91K and 135.

Yeah, similar to the CE-560. Give or take 50 knots. Stand up lav ? Maybe for the vertically challenged. :)
Nice turboprop, no doubt. But enough with the sales brochure comparisons already. If it could do all the things the manufacturer would have you believe, Cessna would be shutting down the Wichita assembly lines.

Is it true that most upgrade in a year? And do you have to live in base? Also can you log sic or is it considered sp?

Upgrade within a year is certainly possible and occurs on a regular basis. Preference is given to folks living near the three basis, but more and more pilots are airlining to aircraft so that may change. Under 91k two pilots are required for our operation, so the SIC becomes a required crew member. Prior to that SIC's could log PIC, but only when acting as the sole manipulator of the flight controls.

Someone mentioned the possibility of eventually adding jets. Any word on type of jet - are we talking big jets or micro jets like the A500 or the Eclipse? What are the three bases again?

Question for the Avanti drivers..

Is there any risk of the gear doors going through the engine? I see the engine inlet is ahead of the main landing gear but is it possible to go through the prop? Has this ever happened?

Not trying to knock the plane, just a question due to it being a pusher.

I heard a deal for some Premiers is in the works.

Thank you for the information

Great info Jolimon.

I want in. Where to send my resume? I have a logbook full of turbine time. Y'all have a base in Texas?

Tx.

Avanti looks like a sweet ride

Not surprisingly, the cockpit looks a bit tight - how many hours can you go before you need to stretch? Do you have any leg room? How's the EFIS and FMS - are they pretty capable or archaic?

What's max range with say, 2 passengers and related baggage on a medium-temp day? Let's say you were to leave TEB or HPN, could you make it to LAS or DEN (with favorable winds)? If you are East Coast based, are you primarily flying down to Florida/Islands and back during the winter?

Avantice

How does this ferrari of the skies handle icing? How are the leading edges anti/de iced?

Anyone had a load on it and how does it fly?

Tx.

Hot wings?

How about the canard, is that bleed air heated or electric. The wings dont have that there shiny metal cuff on the leading edges, so how exactly are they heated? How does it handle with ice on it?

Come on boys, give me the technical info. And if you dont know, just say so.

Tx.

Canard is electric, leading edges of the main wing are bleed air, and the engine inlets are little boots. The vert and horiz tail have no de-/ anti ice.

Don't know how it carries it

Dude thought you were a real pilot, you really don't know how a wing gets heated? It does not require any shiny metal to be a hot wing. **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** you're are a bright one.

If ya don't know anything say so.

I can say that my dealings with Avantair thusfar have been fair. Last August I had two phone interviews with their Chief Pilot, DO and one or two other people were on there also. The next week I was offered the job and was going to start ground school the first of Sept.

I am also a Black Hawk Crew Chief in the North Carolina Army National Guard. Two days after I was offered the job, I found out that I was being deployed to Iraq that November. Instead of waiting till after I started ground school and became an employee of the company (which would have given me the protection under the law with regards to employers and deploying soldiers) I decided to be upfront and honest with them and tell them before I started ground school. I felt like this was the right thing to do. My hopes were that they would at a min. give me a hire date so that I would not lose a whole year of seniority.

I was told that they appreciated what I was going to do over in Iraq and how much respect they had for the military, but that I was no longer going to be able to start ground school. They said it would not make since for me to start in Sept. and only be there for 2 months before I left. I was also told that when I got back, I still had a job with them if I wanted it. They said that they would even put it in writing for me, which I agreed would be good to have. You never know who will still be around after a year.

That was the last conversation I had with Avantair. I never received the letter and after repeated messages that were left inquiring on the status of the letter, my phone calls were never returned.

I am currently in Balad, Iraq and hope to be home in January. The jury is still out on how much integrity the company has. I guess I will find out when I get back. I'm hoping they live up to their word. But so far it isn't looking too good.
