I had to pay a non-rev fee today because I didn't have my passport with me. According to NWA ops, we need to have a passport to get a 9H, in front or back of the aircraft. I had never heard of this, but the NWA captain was kind enough to show me the text in his manual. Make sure you have a passport with you.

I've heard that since CASS, it becomes a big hassle to get a jumpseater verified if they can't use CASS. Using CASS requires a passport photo for identification so if you don't have your passport (even though XJ photo's aren't in the system yet) you can't use CASS. I can kinda see their point since it supposedly takes more time and money to verify you for the 9H seat.

It's getting to the point that if I ever have my pilot's license I bring my passport. It's the way of the future man...

Cya,

and now NW only takes two jumpseaters. It used to be two offline as well for a total of four (but with captain's discretion it was unlimited). I have never tried to jumpseat home to the west coast when there were not at least two NW jumpseaters. Last week there were open seats in the back and the gate agent made me non-rev.

Guess I'll be taking HP.

That was never the jumpseat policy at NW. The current policy has been unchanged for several years. What seems to be changing is NW gate agents and captains have started following the policy.
