I know this may sound crazy but it doesn t hurt to ask but I am a 200 hr private/instrument rated pilot who is seeking anybody in the DFW Metroplex that may have a need for someone to fly their single engine aircraft as needed. I am looking to build time towards my commercial rating and at the same time meet new people out there in the aviation community. If you can help or need help (or have any leads) please reply. Thanks.

I know this may sound crazy , but, the tooth fairey has one for you, call her at 1-555-YOU-WISH.

I find it kinda odd that you of all people would respond with a message like that. You have managed to fly all those exotic, cool aircraft that almost every pilot dreams of flying someday, and you have to put down a fellow aviator for trying anything possible to get the 1200 + hrs required to get a job in this career field. Thanks for your input.

(BY THE WAY. DO YOU OWN ALL OF THOSE AIRCRAFT OR DID YOU HAPPEN TO MEET SOMEONE THAT HAPPENED TO LET YOU FLY THEM. THE TOOTH FAIRY MUST BE REAL!!!)

I owned the 150 and the T-6 before I bought the O-2A, I'm an aircraft mechanic/inspector and performed the maintenance test flights on the other GA aircraft. I worked for an aircraft museum before I went to the airline, and thats how I got the bomber time. I started working as a mechanic for $2.90/hr, so sonny, I've paid my dues, I didn't sit on the steps of the FBO, bumming time. I washed planes in exchange for flight time.

Don't feel sorry for yourself, get out there and work for it, if you want it bad enough.

Why would anyone accept any job for $2.90 an hour???

so sonny, I've paid my dues,

so sonny, I've paid my dues,

What a tired old line. Why not just say I have sacrificed opportunities that someone with better judgement would have taken. So you allowed someone to pay you minimum wage to ddo a skilled job. Don't think the rest of us should follow your hasty, ill-thought out career advice.

Sonny, if I were you, I wouldn't get so bitter about the dumb decisions you have made.

Are you nuts? A professional mechanic working for under $3/hour? You'd have made more than that at McDonalds!

Don't be putting av8torswh down, sonny. You haven't made such bright decisions yourself.

av8-

Go out to the local airports and meet as many pilots as you can who own there own aircraft, network, clean airplanes in return for flight time, post flyers at the fbo's, ask around, look at every option, post on different sites, etc, etc,. Times are tough right now and it is up to you to "find" the opportunities. When I was in school/training in Houston I met many who were able to build time by going to the local airports and getting friendly with the aircraft's owners and working something out. It is also much more "personable" this way versus just "hoping" that someone will reply from a message board and say "sure" you can fly my aircraft especially this day and age where most people may be just a tad more concerned with regards to security and everything else.... I had a few friends who were "allowed" to fly right seat with GTA Air and Pro Jet out of Dallas for the "experience" and they would get the pilot to endorse there logbooks as dual given so you may want to stop by and inquire since I have heard GTA may have stopped that and went to a "PFT" deal where now you are charged per flight hour. If this is the case stay away but it has been some time since I left Texas and I am not sure about these operators but definitely something I would look into if I were you. Pro Jet I am pretty sure is NOT pft and they may "allow" you to fly right seat on certain flights since both operators are single pilot and go pretty much all over Texas. I have a friend who flies the Aerostar for Pro Jet and I think he has taken friends up on many occasions with prior company approval, so look into this.

There are plenty of opportunities out there but it is up to you to find them and get in the door...

good luck to you,

At that time is was about the average for a fresh licenced A&P mech, and was about 75 cents over minimum wage. By the way, I only stayed there for 5 weeks, but it was a steppingstone.

3 5 0 has the right idea.

Have any one that has replied ever owned an aircraft? Find out what its going to cost to put a private pilot on your insurance? You're getter off putting an 18 year old male on a Corvette insurance, with a $100 deductable.

You're not going to get anywhere without showing some iniatative.

I looked on the internet and found a bunch of people who need their planes to be flown. For some reason they wanted $70hr. Thats weird?

Putting a post out on a webboard is initiative. It's a place to start and the worst that could happen is he doesn't get any offers.
