The L-1011 has been my favorite airplane for as long as I can remember, and I have never gotten the chance to actually fly on one. I fly for Chicago Express and I was wondering where the TriStars are currently flying. I know it was doing a LAX-CUN flight over the summer, but I see it has reverted to a 753.

Does anyone know of any other scheduled flights the L-1011 is flying now? Or, is it possible for a Chicago Express pilot to jumpseat on any of the charter flights?, military charter.

Thanks in advance!
Matt

Aren't we still flying them from LAX to Hawaii? I just flew with a former L-10 F/o and he said they were. Jumpseating on military flights is prohibited unless you are positioning...no non-revs.It's a neat old bird. If you do snag a ride on one you will enjoy it.

Some options:

If you're just looking for a ride, you can hop on any number of repositioning flights between IND-BWI, or one of the Patriot Express flights. The positioning flight would probably be the most convenient for you, if you're close to IND already. There are usually several in open time to choose from...I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to call up SOC and get yourself listed for a jumpseat. Otherwise, there is a regularly scheduled Patriot Express flight LAX-SEA-LAX which leaves LAX on Weds/Thurs and returns Friday. I'm pretty sure you can jumpseat on those, as opposed to an AMC flight, where you definately can't. Also, we aren't doing any scheduled service that I know of, so Hawaii isn't an option. We are doing a sub-service for Air Tahiti LAX-PTT, if you've got a hankering for sunshine. Good luck, it's a nice machine.

matt, I got to JS on the L-10 from ind to mco about two years ago... i have to say it was an outstanding two hours. make sure when you go you get to see the pit under the flight deck, pretty interesting. also, the guys flying that bird have some pretty kicka$$ war stories that they will be sure to tell!!

see you on the line

Yeah it is a nice machine. Had a good time riding on it on DAL years back from ATL to SFO. They certainly had a good time!
