Because it is the quickest way to Alaska, et al with its rock-star pay QUOTE]

?????????????????????????????????????????? huh? $350k+ might qualify as rock star pay. Alaska pilots make about the same as longshormen working the docks. Of course longshoremen have to study for 4 years at a place called high school before they can pull down the big bucks. We need to pull our collective head out of our as#e$ and realize that 100k is no longer 'lots' of money.

The FAA also considers a business class seat as an adequate rest facility for augmented crew flights. You probably get more rest on a FedEx seat on a night commute.

Business class seat, that's luxury. The feds will approve the jumpseat/cockpit floor for crew rest. Ask any USA 3000 crew ho that's working out.

USA 3000 has crew ho's that work out?

That might be hot, would have to see pictures though...

You apparently believed in it enough to apply to and work for one. Why is it not okay now?

I believe what Rez is saying is that the current system requires you to work for a regional to build time before applying to a major, so pilots don't have much of a choice. It's either a 12 year commitment to the military, which isn't available to everyone because of medical issues (vision for me) or available pilot slots, or work for a regional. AirTran requires 500 hours of Part 121 PIC time before they'll even look at your resume, and 1500+ was competitive when we were actively hiring. That doesn't even leave pilots the option of flying Part 135 to build experience. The airlines have boxed pilots into this screwed up system.
