I had a discussion the other day with a crusty old veteran pilot. He said that a license still has to say Commercial privileges: MEL even though it says ATP. I didn't believe him since my license used to say Commercial and now it doesn't. What do you guys think?

Mine says ATP AMEL with all listed type ratings, then Commercial privileges ASEL.

The ATP implies the commercial AMEL to ATP standards.

ATP

An ATP still allows you to exercise Commercial privileges by regulation, as long as you possess a Second or better. An ATP certficate means that Uncle Sam says that you may serve as Captain in 121 operations. You cannot serve as such without an ATP and a First Class medical.

My first ATP had Commercial privileges for single-engine. I took a single-engine ATP practical and had it removed. Many people will take their ATP in a single to prevent their written from expiring. They can state truthfully that they hold an Airline Transport Pilot certificate.

Maybe the old timer was referring to the ATR rating on the old Commercial certificate of yore.
