ATP twin-off airport landing- Raleigh

With the way the media is, this off field landing could have been in a grass airport "field". Or perhaps this field was good enough to be an airport. Perhaps the had one bad engine and werent getting a good enough climb so they chose the good field. If they made it out alive, the didnt screw up to bad. We know better then to get all of our info from the news.

FlightSafety Academy has very good instructors, and they have not ever had a fatal accident with an instructor on board

concerning performance requirements for certification, if a twin MTOW is less than 6000 lbs and landing configuration stall speed in less than 61 knots, there is no requirement for climb ability engine out.(seneca, seminole, aztec)

If the stall speed is for example 64k then square the stall speed and multiply by .027. That value equals the required climb required engine out at 5000ft (ISA).

(64 times 64 is 4096, times .027 is 110 ft/min climb required at 5000ft.)

same formula applies if stall under 61k but MTOW is over 6000lbs.

Kind of makes me glad I went to FlightSafety Academy, I don't think they have ever had an accident with an instructor on board.

Obviously we don't know the facts, but one possibility is that two students were doing a cross-country ferry of the plane to a MX base. An instructor may not have been onboard like you think.
