Thanks to everyone who has responded to this thread so far. All the gouge is certainly appreciated. Did the written today with the Sheppardair software prep. I highly recommend it! Saves you about $140 by doing it that way, vice the day long prep from ATP.

Just a quick note about the GI Bill for the ROTC guys: Although you may not have the standard Ch. 30 GI Bill eligibility, once you are off Active Duty, you qualify for the Reserve GI Bill which will also pays 60 percent with a five year commitment to the Reserves. A good deal if you plan on hanging around as a part-timer.

ALL-ATPS is good. Saw a 15 driver score a 72 on the written. If you haven't done much Civ flying you might need to bone up on the regs. I would use any GI benefits you have.

All ATP's is pretty easy. Even for a military guy who had never flown civilian. The Seminole is an easy airplane to fly!

ATP is Great

Did mine in Lakeland. It was not bad if you study. Just know your stuff before you get there. The type is a great way to go they can do it all in one check ride, but for time purposes go the All ATPS route!!

Did the written through All ATPS in Trenton, but did my flying portion at an airport called The Flying W in Medford, NJ, close to Philly. One ride, the guy was the instructor and the evaluator. Piece of cake and saved alot of money! 2.4 hours in a Seneca I and done. PM me if you want the guys number, it's worth the drive if you want low threat.

I think All ATP's has a flying-only program that you can do if you already have the written finished, and they come highly recommended from two guys at my guard unit- one of whom just got hired by FedEx. Best of luck.

The flying should be no problem.

Keep in mind that the "instruction" provided atall ATPs is aimed atguys who are already proficient flying some kind ofmultiengineaircraft. A couple of viper guys from the unit next door tomine took thecourse in Jacksonville, FL the same time I did a few yearsback and ended upopting to do an extra 10 flight hours instead of the2-day full meal deal.Flying a 6-leverpiston twin complete with actualengine shutdowns is a big conceptualdifference for a guy who's used toone throttle and might not know what Vmc is.One guy said he wasconfident he would have hooked the checkride if he hadn'tpaid for theextra flying.
Just a heads up for any of our ACES II test team brethren who areconsideringthe course. Having said all that, I can HIGHLY recommend allATPs Jacksonville.The check ride was very low threat, and the checkpilot was, in the words of myDel Rio T-38IP,"extremely fair."

I hear Jax is the place to go, especially for P-3 guys. Since all the VP-30 folks get there ATP while they're down there, they've built a pretty good relationship. Supposedly no P-3 guy have ever not passed. Maybe that's just because we're incredibly smart and great pilots....no, that can't be it.

The Instruction at Sheppard Air is done by and geared towards Mil pilots. You get 3 rides and the check and you feel pretty confident on the check ride.

You say under ratings "comming soon". If that is true than I suggest that you get your type and the ATP at the same time. This will save you money. If you are going to get the 737 type most schools will give you a free ATP check on the same day you get the sim check for free. You only have to come with the written done.

Try sheppardair. They give a month long access to their database which is similar to the all atp database. This is better because you can study at your leisure and not have the all day b*ll buster that all atp gives. Also I think it is 70 dollars instead of the 295 that all atp charges. Then you only need to go to the local testing office pay 80 bucks and take the test. My friends who tried this methood liked it a great deal.
