There is no flying out of STN other than to commercial to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Dubai and Luxembourg to start a trip. From those points you generally go to Dubai, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Nairobi Kenya, Jo-berg SA, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuwait, Dahka, Mumbai and Huntsville AL to name a few.
STN exists as a base only due to the nature in which it was formed. Atlas created a crew leasing company (AACS now known as AABO) as an attempt at union busting with off the street European hires as captains and F/O's while furloughing the same number of US based ALPA guys during our unionization. If Atlas moved that base someplace useful like Amsterdam or Frankfurt, the remaining AABO replacement pilots (wanna-be-scabs) would have to go back into system seniority resulting in them becoming junior F/O's under a STN Letter of agreement. AABO is slowly dying off. They cannot hire anymore into AABO. Those remaining AABO (<50) are generally not employable elsewhere or they would have left already. Most can't pass a Proficiency Check on the first try. Where as if an ALPA guy failed twice, he would be unemployed. The AABO guys are allowed multiple rides until they finally get it right. Their reward for being willing replacements for union guys.
