What are the routes/destinations that Atlas flies form the STN base?
I heard that Amsterdam, Dubai and maybe India. How about the far east Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore etc.
Any info will help.
Thanks

There is no flying out of STN other than to commercial to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Dubai and Luxembourg to start a trip. From those points you generally go to Dubai, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Nairobi Kenya, Jo-berg SA, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuwait, Dahka, Mumbai and Huntsville AL to name a few.

STN exists as a base only due to the nature in which it was formed. Atlas created a crew leasing company (AACS now known as AABO) as an attempt at union busting with off the street European hires as captains and F/O's while furloughing the same number of US based ALPA guys during our unionization. If Atlas moved that base someplace useful like Amsterdam or Frankfurt, the remaining AABO replacement pilots (wanna-be-scabs) would have to go back into system seniority resulting in them becoming junior F/O's under a STN Letter of agreement. AABO is slowly dying off. They cannot hire anymore into AABO. Those remaining AABO (<50) are generally not employable elsewhere or they would have left already. Most can't pass a Proficiency Check on the first try. Where as if an ALPA guy failed twice, he would be unemployed. The AABO guys are allowed multiple rides until they finally get it right. Their reward for being willing replacements for union guys.

Thanks for your response. Sounds like interesting flying out there.
What is the training philosophy at Atlas? Is it a 3 strikes you are out? Or is it an AQP system where its train to proficiency?
Thanks.

The -200 program has been very good for a long time. Matured program.

Having said that, the -400 has a long way to go to match it despite having -400s for over 10 years. They recently just gotten rid of the Director of Training a couple of days ago. They have not announced the replacement for him yet. They will also be making changes to the instructors, check airmen, and examiners on staff supposedly. Will probably leave that up to the new Dir. of Training and/or the new Atlas/Polar System Director just recently announced. Many crewmembers preferred taking their training from the contract instructors rather than the Atlas ones in this program if that says anything.

I believe under contract you get two ride attempts and the company has the option to can you if they wish. They do train to proficiency if they have time, but they have packed the PC and PT's with so much company required stuff that they have little or no time to allow training and to repeat the failed maneuver during the sim session. Exceptions to this are the AABO guys in STN. They get as many rides as they need to pass. The benefit for being a willing replacement pilot for a union guy.
