Need to get my first class next week. My old Dr. near the ATL is gone and I'm looking for a new one (before duty-in) that accepts walk-ins that is within 5-10 mins from the airport. I'd rather go with a recommendation than just looking them up. Also, please list the price for the medical.

Let the responses begin!

I went last month to see a guy way the frack up in NORTH Marietta - he turned out to be an optomologist. Frackin' dialated my eyes and did a glaucoma check for a 1st class medical... THEN told me he didn't have an EKG machine and I'd have to complete it somewhere else (1st year having to have one).

Didn't even follow up with me to see if I even GOT an EKG, just turned it into the feds. Luckily I was going home the next day and had my local PCP give me one - the feds said that was fine and didn't even want me to fax it in...?

Long story short, avoid the Marietta Eye Clinic unless you just happen to want an ESPECIALLY thorough eye exam along with your 1st class... :)

I'd also like to know who's fast, easy, walk-in, and close to the airport. If you end up going to Dr. Vereen, sign back on and give us a report card on him.

I went to Veeren once. He did a good, quick medical and I have heard he is the man if you ever have medical problems.

The problem I had with him is that I was on a new medication that needed to be reported to the FAA. It was a non event drug but needed a letter from the AME. He charged me an extra $65 since he had to write this letter which I'm sure took all of 30 seconds for his secretary to change the name on. I was pissed!

Has anyone else had this happen to them? Is it normal for the AME to charge you more for writing a letter?

I have seen Dr Verren several times. Nice guy, very quick and fair medical. Only other guy I would go to and have been to is Dr Davud Williams on Delk Rd. Does mostly medicals and INS medical exams. Walking into his office is like taking a step back in time. Him and his wife and one nurse run the place. He will tell you all about his plane crash at RYY and will try to get you to take a BCG vaccination which he imports from Africa. He claims its the fountain of youth, I have always declined. Vereen is like $120 and Dr Dave is about $60 or so. You really cant go wrong with either one although the wait time at Dr Dave's can be kind of long sometimes.
