I would guess that running the panel on the DC-8 would be one of the most difficult aviation jobs available nowadays. (as far as difficulty of learning the job for a RJ guy/gal).
Are they hiring PFEs or pilots to fill the slots?

(after researching this I discovered that preference as per the contractual agreement with furloughed ABX pilots applies to these positions also. This job, the 3 FE positions, along with (8) DC-8 FO openings are on the public website should there not be any ABX takers. Word is that this notice is the first of three DC-8 expected Vacancy Bids for this year.)

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications for consideration will include:
1. FAA Flight Engineer’s Certificate (Turbo Prop or Turbo Jet).
2. FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
3. An appropriate combination of heavy aircraft maintenance and aviation experience.
4. High School Diploma or equivalent.
5. Valid US Passport
6. A&P Mechanic License
Preferred qualifications will include, but are not limited to:
1. FAA Flight Engineer’s Certificate with a Turbo Jet rating.
2. 2000 hours heavy jet Flight Engineer experience (military or civilian).
3. DC-8 Maintenance (36 months) and/or Flight Engineer experience.
4. Commercial Pilots license with a Multi Engine Rating.
