Yeah I know what you might be thinking but it's a great company and there's always room to advance.
Not to mention it's much better pay than collecting unemployment checks!

I just didn't think there were as many rational people as you out there Born Again.
Thanks for helping to change my perception of FI!
I know it's what you make of it, and normal I'm not so pessimistic
but I figured my reward for posting a job would be something to the
tune of like, "Why the hell would I want to be an FE?".

I would guess that running the panel on the DC-8 would be one of the most difficult aviation jobs available nowadays. (as far as difficulty of learning the job for a RJ guy/gal).

Are they hiring PFEs or pilots to fill the slots?

Yeah, there's spots open because they completely screw over and fire Captains who actually have the balls to speak up about stuff.

And yeah, I'm talking about K T. What a dirt bag outfit. No offense to the guys stuck working there.

I'm ignorant to the subject matter of K T Gutshot......
I just show up when I'm supposed to and do my job to the best of my
ability. Now I'm a little biased after getting picked up off of my first airline furlough
but feel that I have been treated very fairly by my employer thus far. Like I said
previously I just started the thread to maybe help one guy get off the street.

I'm not sure , I'll try to find out for you...

(after researching this I discovered that preference as per the contractual agreement with furloughed ABX pilots applies to these positions also. This job, the 3 FE positions, along with (8) DC-8 FO openings are on the public website should there not be any ABX takers. Word is that this notice is the first of three DC-8 expected Vacancy Bids for this year.)

From the website regarding the FE slots:

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications for consideration will include:

1. FAA Flight Engineer’s Certificate (Turbo Prop or Turbo Jet).
2. FAA Class II Medical Certificate.
3. An appropriate combination of heavy aircraft maintenance and aviation experience.
4. High School Diploma or equivalent.
5. Valid US Passport
6. A&P Mechanic License

Preferred qualifications will include, but are not limited to:

1. FAA Flight Engineer’s Certificate with a Turbo Jet rating.
2. 2000 hours heavy jet Flight Engineer experience (military or civilian).
3. DC-8 Maintenance (36 months) and/or Flight Engineer experience.
4. Commercial Pilots license with a Multi Engine Rating.

All I can say is, keep your mouth shut and when maintenance control says your MEL is good to go, make them FAX IT TO YOU so they can't be intimidated into having to lie about it later.

following your advice, keeping my mouth shut and have no comment on your post.... thx just the same.

At a minimum, an A & P. That likely rules out a fair amount of the ABX pilots, unless they started on panels there and had to have an A&P.
