Does anyone know how many pilots are at ATA and how many planes they have? In there letter they sent me with their application they said they would hire 90 in the first quarter and someone on this board said they would hire 230 for the year. Wouldn't this be about a 20% expansion for ATA? How many new planes do they have on order for the next couple years?

Thanks

240 was the rumor number, recently posted from the company was this:

"Current Plans indicate 96 New First Officers will be hired in the first quarter 2004, and a total of 140 for calendar year 2004."

There are roughly 1150 pilots on property including those in training. Company also told us that they do hire Furloughed pilots and recommendations help in this situation, senority number must be resigned as well. hope this helps.

"I believe a lot of the hiring is due to increased aircraft utilization. They were at about 9 hours for each aircraft per day, and are now up to 10.5 or 11 hours per day."

That is what they told us during the interview process in Nov. They also said they don't hire for what is "planned", only for what is "on the books"

They did say that they don't use a crew#/aircraft model for staffing, it is all based on hours and a "ouiji board"

How many planes does ATA have right now? About 80?

Also, I have heard they have a training contract. Something like $24K @ 1K per month for 24 months from finishing training. Is that it or is it something else?

You are right about the training contract. You also have to give up your seniority number, if you have one.

Not trying to be rude...but the search button will get you tons of info on ATA on this website.

FBJ

I put a bid in for the yacht Captain position, but all I could hold was MDW 757 FO. Hopefully, one of those 7 737's in 2005 has my name on the left side.

Do you think I could hold yacht captain as a new hire? :D

Maybe First Mate.....but only if you're typed in the Nimitz class.

Dang...I knew I shoulda bid the Nimitz at U.

Sorry about that, I wasn't really sure and was too lazy to figure it out.

Stuff I know---

The training contract takes affect after OE. Don't know if its legally enforcable. You will sign it during your interview. I think its a fair system. Its a great way to keep costs lower and not penalize employee pay.

ATA will get thru this financial/bond/lease payment "crisis" in the near term. Don't know what the debt load will do to us long term. We'll have the same financial challlenges as AA. IMHO, Delta is not far behind us and AA. UAL also looks financially challenged.

ATA is a great place to work and has cost advantages. CASM is just above JetBlue.

Did I mention its a great place to work?? I can't wait to fly the 757 in a few years and fly to Hawaii.

Thanks for the info FBJ. By the way, if I PM you, could you let me know if you know a guy that I think is at ATA. Used to know him at Dover AFB in the C-5. He's the only person I know of at ATA to possibly get an internal rec. Do external rec's count for much there?

Sure, I'll check on it. Though I'm not sure exactly how I would reach him. His name will just show up on the base/equipment senority list.

I'm not convinced that recs will be essential for interview in '04. Many have been hired without them in years past, including '03.

Don't know about external recs.
