I got a call a week ago for an interview, but have yet to finalize the date. Is anyone scheduled for the 13, 14, 15th, or 20, 21, 22nd of May? Those were the days that were offered to me and I HOPE they are still available! I've waited 14-years since my first solo to my first "Major" call, so I guess it's time to be patient again...

Fly safe and any info would be appreciated on those interview dates.
 
I got an application the other day. I heard this is a good sign, since they don't send them out to everyone. Is this generally true? Also, any advice on anwering the Interpersonal skills section? It looks like basic CRM type stuff.
 
Jetjockey-

It's your preference on whether to hand write your answers or do them on a computer, print them out and attach to the resume.

Make sure that all of your answers to the essay questions are NOT aviation related. Good luck.

Hello from the Left Coast!

My buddies at ATA told me how to fill out the APP. They said to think about some of the situations in life that lead to growth and positive change in your life as well as your career. I thought about that, wrote what I believed, and can you believe it! Got a call 3-weeks later! Still waiting for an interview date though...

Good luck and try not to sound like all those "interview answer" books!

Nice Winglets on the 737-800

Any idea about potential aircraft type? I love the winglets on the 737-800 - and the super-long 757-300 is an amazing aircraft to watch land/takeoff. You just can't believe how long it is until you see it....

I knew a guy who was a pretty JUNIOR FO on the 757 who was, at one time, just flying the LAX-Honolulu or LAX-Kahalui ROUNDTRIPS every week for a few months. Back and forth in one day. He really enjoyed the 757-300.

Those lines are probably one of the best deals in aviation. Work 8 days a month, fly 80-85 hours. Thats right 22 or 23 days off per month! Don't know why I didn't do it last bid. Guess I love the TriStar too much. Maybe next time around...

Relocation means you get to the base assigned to fly and then you commute to wherever you want to live.

What do you think it means? Just wondering.

False! I would say that a good many of our pilots commute to work. We have a commuter policy in our contract that takes the stress out of commuting. Well, it takes a little of the stress out.

I was just wondering how long it takes to hold LAX or SFO on the 757 (If interview goes well...)?

LAX and SFO have gone pretty senior lately. 50 or so 757 pilots have been been born in the last few months, and I don't think any of them got to the west coast. Lots of upgrading L10 FE's and transitioning FO's out there.

I have a friend who has been with ATA for two years this month, is near the last guy in SFO, but can't get to LAX - where he lives. He is, however, able to drop a number of SFO trips each month and pick up LAX trips out of open time (when he doesn't get stuck on reserve). Bet on MDW for a year or so - those senior 757 FO's are going to have to bid Captain sometime.

By the way, MDW is a really easy commute from Cali. Plenty of ATA flights (including red eyes, if you go for that stuff) and nonstops on SWA. If desperate, there are tons of flights to ORD.

I have study plans mapped out as well as the 727 sim ride prep soon. Hope it all works out. My three buddies at ATA all have nothing but great things to say about the people at the company (and they say all the new planes are cool too!).

P.S. For those of you wanting to fly at ATA; Have a friend walk-in your resume and cover letter and LOR. Fill out the app. and spend a lot of time on the essay questions (honest, heartfelt anwers seemed to work for me) and pray they call you! (I'm sure they will!)

I was afraid it meant relocating in the traditional (non-airline) sense. Glad to hear that is not the case.

U have 2 resign your seniority. The work rules are decent and the pay is decent. 1st yr. is about $40K, and I believe 2nd yr. FOs make about $65-the contract is here: http://airlinepilotcontracts.com/

Domiciles are IND, MDW, SFO, and LAX. There may be one or 2 I don't know of.

PS-If you search for "TriStar_drvr" he works for ATA (I don't) and has posted a ton of stuff on them on this website.
 
I have heard very good things about ATA(except for the 1st and 2nd year pay) and have talked to a lot of the new hires at the Delta training center in ATL(the 738 sims and FTD training is done there). They seem very happy and I don't blame them. I like those winglets too on the 738. And, one of their Capt's told me that their 757-300's hold more people than our 767-400's---due to our first class section. That is amazing.
