I have noted that a number of people on this forum have been hired by ATA recently and are either on, or in training for, the L-1011 fleet. It is my understanding that ATA operates 5-7 L-15s and then large 737-800 and 757 fleets.

For those who fly the L-1011s, what are some of your typical routes (non-classified)? I haven't seen any L-1011s in the OAGs. Are the L-1011s primarily used on the MAC routes. If so, what is a typical month like? How often to you cross the Pond? What are some of the more EXOTIC places you fly to?

By the way, I love those 737-800 winglets - they're cool looking!

Cheers

As of the beginning of October, all scheduled service is done by the 737 and 757 fleets. There are still a couple of L-1011's out on the west coast as spares for the Pleasant Hawiian service, but these should be phased out when all of the L-1011 crews out there are retrained in their new equipment. If assigned to the L-10 these days, expect to position at least one to four legs to get in, and out of place for each trip. You'll be really familiar with the TSA's gate screening procedures.

ATA's L10 crews are based in JFK and IND. JFK doesn't usually have an aircraft there - they are out doing MAC charters out of BWI and other domestic and international airports. Lots of flying to Sigonella, Frankfurt, and Baharain. Most of the time you cross the pond you get a view from seat 44A in the back of a Delta 767. IND L10 crews do quite a bit of Ambassadair charter flying to the islands and Mexico. However the mostg junior pilot based there has something like three years of seniority.

ATA has stated their intention to hire 20 new pilots directly into the 757. That airframe offers the best mix of domestic and international flying - both scheduled and charter.

Just curious as I saw an ATA 757 in Larnaca last week. I was under the impression that the L-10 was doing all of the AMC stuff and the 75 was for scheduled flying?

I guess if I had read your previous post more closely you said both sched and charter on the 757. I had thought I had read that the charter unit was split off into a different entity and they would use only the L-1011s for charter? Again I should have probably read that more closely as well!
