I wonder why the announcement now? Maybe some pre-marketing to spark demand or gage interest. Maybe it's chaff and flares to confuse the competition.

It's a great plan. The new business class is not enough to increase RASM's by itself. With predominately a long-haul fleet, yields have become almost non-existant on many of your routes due to the high competition. The interesting thing is the effect this will have on AA, DL, and CA. These routes are their gravy train. AA still can fall back on South America, but even that's being invaded by DL.

If I remember correctly, ATA was providing scheduled Trans-Atlantic service to Dublin and Shannon, Ireland during the summer of 1999. I was working ramp at this time, and we'd load some of the MDW-JFK flights continuing to Ireland.

Hopefully this happens.

I expect an announcement regarding an alliance with another Int'l partner. Rumors point to RyanAir or Virgin.

Who knows?

It's the way of the future! I've said it before. In five years we're going to be looking at a whole new ballgame with LCCs' flying international routes. Lookout legacy carriers!
