Just wondering what ya'll think of this latest statement from Air Tran?

The Chief Financial Officer of AirTran Airways (a US low fare passenger carrier) recently said: “I love high fuel prices. Fuel is going to be the single greatest catalyst in accelerating the restructuring of this industry.”

Well which is it? I don't think ATA would be saying that considering their current financial position. By the way ATA stands for AMERICAN TRANS AIR... Not Air Tran.

This is why you gotta love this board....guys posting stuff & they don't even know which airline they're yapping about.

He was talking about AirTran. With high fuel costs, a lot of carriers won't make money. If you have a low cost structure, you can make a slim profit as opposed to a carrier with high costs. I think they (AirTran) don't mind the high cost of fuel now because a shakeout will occur. That's probably what their talking about. ATA is not hedged I think, so they are not the ones that welcome the high fuel costs. In fact, that with other considerations got them into the problems they are experiencing now. I wish them well.

Be sure to include that impressive "aircraft recognition team" cedential near the top of your resume, that will certianly get you places!

Back to the topic.
A few months ago Joe Leonard told a recurrent class that he wishes oil prices would go down to $20/bbl or up to $80/bbl. At $20 we all make money and $80 would thin out the herd.

That is NOT a 400LS, it's a Cheyenne III. I know this by being on the aircraft recognition team at Riddle.

It must be a PRE-April fools joke?

I hope!

Please tell me exactly why you dropped out of school. I guess you paid someone to get your GED for you. You are definitely NOT the brightest bulb in the pack!

For the record, it was AirTran's Officer quoted as saying that. We are hedged as follows...

Form 8-K for AIRTRAN HOLDINGS INC

On March 22, 2005, the registrant's management conducted a presentation at the Goldman Sachs 20th Annual Transportation Conference during which management disclosed certain information including the following details about the registrant's aircraft fuel hedging and outlook on non-fuel unit costs for 2005:

• 49 % of Q1 2005 expected fuel consumption is hedged at an average of $0.98 per gallon raw product.

• 44 % of Q2 2005 expected fuel consumption is hedged at an average of $1.18 per gallon raw product.

• 25 % of Q3 2005 expected fuel consumption is hedged at an average of $1.37 per gallon raw product.

• 19 % of Q4 2005 expected fuel consumption is hedged at an average of $1.32 per gallon raw product.

• Non-fuel costs are expected to decrease 3% during 2005

Usually they stick the guys that can't fly on the a/c rec team. That way they feel like they are a part of something. Plus you can tell your friends "that is not a 400 that is a 400ASJFBVHVHFBDNB11234 alpha model". Tool.
