Man that sux... I also heard that there will be displacements in all seats. Any idea how many they are planning on furloughing?

i heard going from 29 727-200's to 20 727's. loss of 9 ships. round 1 called for -5 s/o's, but astar was already short. round 2 and 3 will call for 11 year f/o's to be bumped to s/o.

dhl is loosing their ass in n. america. cannot grow or make any money. estimates are upwards of 1-2 million loss every night

Pluss their BS ploy to try and creat and an alter-ego KHK company failed in court when GCAS repossed their aircraft. Sorry to the KHK guys and gals. Of course that fat lady hasn't sung just yet either. These guys cant put a deal together to save their life!

DHL goes, so does Astar and Abx, good luck.

Naaa, all smoke. DHL is not going to leave the US market. They may make some drastic changes, but there will be a few yellow boxes floating around the US for a long time.

IF they were to go, then you are right Astar would be gone and maybe ATI and Cappy would have enough work for ABX. But didn't Astar just have a new hire class? Either DHL cut Astar as part of the "new restart" or Astar management is just playing games with the pilot group. When metal starts getting chopped up then I will believe it is what it is being sold as.

If a furlough is in the works, I truly feel sorry for the people involved. As a 2-time furloughee from ABX, I understand their pain.

No doubt! Why use bodies as fodder to push their plans? Didn't ABX just do something similar just about a year ago? Furlough a few and all it did was piss the pilot group off even more? And if I remember right, they were all called back almost right away? Help me out here, I am putting this together from memory as I write and I had a few watching a great snow game Bills/Browns.

I thought furloughs were prohibited as long as you had 3rd parties flying (i.e. Europe to JFK) and your contract did not have a provision for surplussing. What is the truth?

If you park 9 72s where will the lift come from, ABX doesn't have planes or crews. I heard a rumor that we were parking up to 20 9's by March. Again, who does the flying? There are not too many more through station possibilities that aren't already being used.

This is pure rumor, but heard DHL is slashing 1/3 of all flying. How, who knows? It sounds absurd but it could be true, doesn't make since though with the attempted KHA deal. Just rumors. I heard 10 nines in Jan are going to be announced, and Astar has announced 4 already for sometime in 08.

Remember this though, FEAR is the greatest weapon.

Unless they plan on paying a lot of cash to displaced pilots, the 9's are here in January. Lines are out and awarded.

Where are you guys hearing this from? Just curious because UPS seems to be in a long line for aircraft. I think this scenario was brought up a last spring and some UPS pilots spoke up and said they are short for their own sort and don't know where the lift would come from to absorb DHL lift. (Unless DHL keeps losing customers, then a 152 would do.)

And this next statement is not a slam at Astar or your "old" DHL so don't bash me for bringing this up. Airborne Express had growth and happy customers for over 25 years. Then DP comes in and buys DHL, then they buy Airborne. So they try to re-invent the wheel and have lost so much business, the combined lift is less than just the Airborne lift prior to the purchase. Don't you all think that DP (working as the "new" DHL) should just ask Airborne how they always had growth and happy customers and run the business as they bought it? Their hard headed stance has lost customers while a profitable business plan was purchased with Airborne. Would they really sell off their lift to a competitor rather than ask for the Airborne business plan? These guys really have me scratching my head as to what they are thinking.

p.s. About your John Dasshole, ABX had their own in gone-away Donaway.

Thanks B. We've got a fund set up and it will be running shortly to help out the furloughees, should it actually happen.

The rummer (started by Astar mgt.) of a 1/3 pullback across the board in North America on the air side by DHL is spreading like wild fire. This on the heels of the Displacement Bid put out on Sat. has everyone rattled. Lets see.... Displace. Bid with potential for 5 furloughs. A reduction in flying rummer. Everyone rattled. Sounds to me that the Mgt BS machine is doing it's job pretty good huh.
As for the UPS stuff, that comes from a financial analyst report from a company in England that DHL should sell off it's Americas Div. to UPS or FEDX because they don't see a return to black until well after 2012. Problem with this report is that this company has had a nasty problem of generating reports that denigrate one company to the benefit of another when the latter has given them money to do so. Reader beware.
