My name is Ken MacTiernan. I am the Director of the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Association, AMTA. I am also an American Airlines Aircraft Technician Crew Chief. I created AMTA to educate the public about the craft and contributions of the professional Aircraft Technician. One way we will do this is by dedicating plaques in honor of Charles Taylor at Aerospace Museums. Charles Taylor was the Wright brothers mechanic and he built by hand the Wright Flyer's first engines. If not for "Charlie" the Wright brothers would not have been the first in powered flight. It is therefore considered that Charles Taylor is the first mechanic of powered flight. I am looking for donations/sponsorships and memberships to AMTA to help us achieve our goal of promoting Aircraft Technicians. If you are interested in more information or wish to join; $20 membership fee and you get an AMTA T-shirt with Charles Taylor's picture on the back, please e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at (619) 395-6681. Thank you. Sincerely, Ken MacTiernan

That's pretty interesting, but I'm afraid you are mostly going to meet pilots on this board, not mechanics. I'm sure we all love our amt's and are glad they do such a good job, but we're not likely to get as excited about this stuff as you might be. Good luck though.

Skydriver, I am aware that this BB is mostly for pilots. That is exactly why I posted here. Other than AMTs themselves no other work group is, or should be more aware of what AMTs do. There are naby pilots with A&Ps. I thank you for your reply and encouragement. But for a single membership of $20 I can't think of a better way than to show support for a craft that is being attacked not only by management, ie. USAir & UAL, but by the government, ie. Senator's McCain and Lott with their "baseball like arbitration". AMTA's goal is one of recognition for Aircraft Technicians. If you are not interested in joining, just say thank you to the next Aircraft Technician after every landing. Again, thank you for your words of encouragement.
