What's going on with ASA's hiring pool? Heard some rumors that people in it might need to go in and be "re-evaluated". Anyone else heard this?

Worst than that. I was speaking to a friend tonight about this. He interviewed with ASA was given the welcome aboard letter just before Main Line (DAL) started the lay offs…. Was told to wait but that he was in the pool “just keep swimming” Now the HR lady has thrown his file away with no record he even interviewed with them and told to go away (inside source confirmed) To make matters worse, he had talked to another hired pilot who was getting bumped form class dates because ASA is allowing later hired pilots with more experience to start class ahead of everyone else (unconfirmed).

Sounds similar to what I've heard so far... I'm not in with ASA myself in any way, but I know someone who's been in this "pool" for a very long time and just got some concerning news. I'm curious to find out more what this "re-evaluate" is all about! Sounded to me as if they wanted to start the interview process all over from scratch again arguing that you've been in the pool for so long we feel we need to re-assess you to determine if we can offer anything at this time...

What a load of junk...

I hope I'm wrong. I could be, but I sure haven't heard any good rumors about people in the pool yet except that hiring might start in March...

I have been in the ASA pool since October 2002. I hope my papework wasn't lost. They calld me few days ago and told me I have to do the sim again. What undue stress . Why cant they make it easy. I already did the sim and interview and passed . Its not like I forgot o fly . Oh well nothing I can do. Anyone else get called?

Purged!

A few months ago, ASA HR purged all of the files in the new hire pool. ANYONE that was not current was tossed as were individuals that were no longer competitive. We are in the 4-5000 hour range as far as competition, but some of the low time newhires are from the pool because they stayed current. I was told by Julie that out of almost a hundred in the pool, only 30 or so managed to maintain currency. We are also hiring furloughed Delta guys to. So the more competitive, the faster the class (if hired).

If they are asking you to retake the sim ride, it is more than likely that they want to see if you still posses the skills needed to get through the RJ training, as it is a tough course. ;)

Which sim did they have you fly last time? Now they are using the CR2 or CR7 sims instead of the ATR sim. Maybe they want to see how everyone handles the CRJ sim.

Well, I hate to be "that guy", but I had sent some stuff to ASA a few weeks ago on a lark, and got a phone screening this morning. I don't know how they do it, but they did not invite me to interview at this time. Did I say something they didn't like? Beats me, he kinda caught me off guard, woke me up after a long day, and the call was over before I could really think too much about it. Did they have some kind of HR shakeup? Cleaning house with new people who want to start over with the files. I don't want to "cut in line" or anything, but still...

I got a phone interview a week after I sent my resume. A week later or so they sent me an application. It took me two weeks to complete it. Two weeks after that I got a call for an interview on March 2 and 3.

I was in the same spot than you, i didnt know if they were going to send me the application, but they did. And then I waited for an interview invitation and they called. Now i just have to pass the interview.

new pool

I have been informed that they have cleared out the pool too. I think that they are going out and looking for people that are "more competitive".

They have started over, as far as we can tell... They are only going to hire about 150 people this year... If you are one of these people, good luck! Take care!

We have EXHAUSTED the pool and will hire approx 120 this year. Yes, we have well over 120 apps (more like several thousand), but we are still looking for the best 120 guys out there. Remember, LOR's are pretty much the key in the door! (unless you are a Delta furloughed guy). But even then, times are tough. If we get any new aircraft other than the current deliveries (which I think we will), then the hiring will increase dramatically. Good luck! Tim.:)

Sorry Duct, I editid this because I did not read your post very well. My bad. I took out the contradiction.

As a side note to those who might think Delta furloughs have an automatic in at ASA.

I crashpad with a guy who was a intern in the pilot recruit dept. in ASA up until the end of 2002 when we were hiring. He has said that several Delta folks were turned down for various reasons both pre interview and post interview.

The Delta folks I was in class with were all very sharp and professional and were either typed in the CRJ or had little problem with class and SIM.

Good Luck to all, I cant wait to have more than a hand full behind me on the list.

ASA claims that the average TT to get an interview right now is around 5000 hours (DAL furloughs and interns or FSI people excepted). They are interviewing furloughed USAir pilots with 10,000 to 15,000 TT. If we can hire people with that level of experience, why should we hire some person that meets the bare minimums?

Except of course TABExpressFO. He would be a phenominal addition to any airline operation. What with all the dynamite training, flying and leadership skills, and command experience he brings to the table as a result of his storied tenure at TABExpress.

Just FYI...

I have been in ASAs pool since Nov 2002. They called me about three weeks ago to come in to fill out additional forms. It turned out to be to take another drug test as I'd been in the pool for so long. When I was getting the paperwork to go over to the lab, I saw a spreadsheet with poolies on it...counted 17 names. So...the pool hasn't been completely purged, probably just pared down significantly as others have said. They still haven't called me for a class date yet, so I have no idea if any poolies have been called at this time.

Without trying sound like a smarta$$, i know i'm ready for the airlines, my retired Delta instructor told me that i had the skill and experience necessary now to get on with any regional and fly RJs.

No kidding, you have paid him a large wad of cash to blow smoke up your a$$.

I am sure you could find a hooker that would tell you that you have a large penis...

But that does not make it true.

Keep it in mind.

The retired Delta instructor i was referring to, doesn't need to work at Tab, he does it because he still enjoys to fly and teach, he would not say something not true just because i am a customer.

This guy is Thread poison. Every thread he replies to instantly becomes about him. Can we get him banned or at least his own forum that every thread he replies to instantly goes in?
