If you were in the bottom 100 at ASA would you jump ship to SKW? No flame, honest opinions only please.

I would... but I doubt if someone the bottom 100 cares what someone in the top 100 thinks, lol.

In all honesty, an FO with less than one year who lives in SLC or out West would be better off there. Two year upgrades. They have nothing to lose by leaving.

Answer your own question. What would you tell an interviewer at SKW that will undoubtedly ask you why you want to switch?

Tell 'em you're tired of swiss cheese on wheat.

Yeah... tell 'em you love those oatmeal cookies and cheese crackers!

In a heartbeat.

Nothing is going to happen, nobody is going to lose their jobs. In that SLC closure notice on flica it didn't even mention the loss of any A/C. It just said in mid 2007 there will be 100 less crj700 pilots. They could be moved to another yet to be announced base. Nobody should have anything to worry about....yet.

Just push ALPA to stop acting like children and start negotiating.

Probably should use the criteria mentioned by John P: basically if it's more advantageous for you because you live out west or close to a SKYW base.

You need to bear in mind that you won't necessarily be escaping the mess you see at ASA just by going to SKYW. Need to understand that if the ASA pilots allow Mr. Jerry Atkin to get a hook in us he'll be heading right over to the SKYW group to play the same whipsaw game. As I understand it, the game has already begun there. In the hopeful outcome, the ASA pilots will come to an agreeable arrangement with their company, the SKYW pilots will vote to accept ALPA on their property (the union drive is ongoing as we speak) and the two pilot groups will begin to work in concert to the benefit of us all. If somehow, this ever leads to a merger of lists...and it could, you might enjoy a little better senority by retaining your slightly higher ASA number.

Actually it's Gerry Adkins.

According to the latest SAPA memo, there have been no new negotiations on a pay raise for -700 pilots and a 50 seat pay cut may be necessary.

Bad, bad Redan! I'm ironing my fingers now...

To be honest with you , I wouldnt leave. We can all find 100 good reasons as to why we think we should leave ASA or 100 reasons why to go work at Skywest. I personally think that at this stage in the game, all regionals have the same problems and if they don't THEY HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO. I very seriously doubt that Skywest Airlines can escape the problems that we have dealt with at ASA. Keep in mind that SKW and ASA are making boatloads of money. When I say problems I mean union issues and the whipsaw. If you want to have any long term career goals in this business then it is to your advantage to stay at ASA and wait until you can get your " dream job". Granted that may mean waiting 5 to 10 years to go to Southwest , Fedex, or UPS but the bottom line is that, I wouldnt move to chase a base or company. I wish you the best in your decision and if you have any specifics please fell free to PM me.

You'll just expose yourself to the whipsaw for twice as long a time period, and probably make even LESS money after JA lowers the Skywest wages without pilot consent next year.

I'm not a big union fan, but they are a necessary evil in our industry. Without them guys like D'Angelo would have even less of a pot to pee in than they already do.

The MAIN reason our negotiating committee has not reached an agreement is that they have been going up against a particularly stubborn, dumb, unethical, and aggressive "management team". They would rather pay their legal team 4 million dollars a year than give us a raise that costs really nothing when you factor in the amount of money the pilots would in turn save the company by once again being team players.

Nothing nice has EVER been said about management at ASA though, in any forum other than their own propoganda. The G.O. people who troll this board trying to spread dissent and confusion are in my mind a modern day version of the brainwashed "Hitler Youth"........

Comparing anyone at ASA to Nazis is not funny at all. Nobody here on either side of this argument is putting people in ovens. That comment is uncalled for and over the top.

Whoa... dude get a grip on reality!

Anyhow, anyone who mindlessly follows their superiors without question is making the same mistake as the Nazis. Learn from their mistakes. I would include management and union followers in that statement.

Sorry to offend you with the analogy. I meant figuratively speaking, from standpoint of being brainwashed and drinking the company kool-aid.

I was not alluding to the atrocities of WWII and did not mean it that way!

Would a "Jim Jones" - Guyana tragedy (drinking the poisoned kool-aid) tack have been less offensive? They do drink A LOT of kool-aid over there at the airport.

Sure they are. Management forces us to put the revenue units in RJs with deferred APUs all the time.

Well said, Pogue!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't that the truth- nothing like deadheading in the back to somewhere in Florida, deferred APU, actual temp in the back reaches around 35c in the afternoon money line!

I've always been a fan of your logic and posts- keep up the good work!

I'm seriously considering the jump. I live in SLC and the wife has a pretty good job here. If I were still in ATL i'm not sure that I would be thinkning that hard about it. Oh well, we'll see how it plays out.

Gator, If you live in SLC and have roots there with the wife at a good job, jump ship. Its all about QOL, and not commuting plays a big part of that.

Good luck to you gator. If you've been here less than a year or so, you really don't have much to lose. I've been here too long to jump ship, but not quite long enough to leave on my own accord.

I would not be surprised though if JA goes after their (Skywest) workgroup for wage concessions after the current ASA stuff settles down.

I have nothing against Skywest people- I think the ones I have met in SLC are great, hard working team players. But I DO think that JA is a "bottom line" kind of business man and have a gut feeling that their work group is next to be victim to this game. He may seem like your friend, but he still is a businessman 100%.

I think that there are probably enough concerned, intelligent pilots at Skywest now that a future union on property vote would pass. The company cannot remain the sheltered, small "homey" kind of organization that it was in years past. Its too big now. Even Southwest has changed throughout the years and lost a little of its original culture and feel.

You can't have an organization with 4000+ pilots and expect them to all know each other. Skywest, INC. has reached "critical mass"......

if you are on the bottom 1hundred at a.s.a. and you live out west, brother i would go to skywest in a heartbeat commuting sucks!

Republic or Mesa would be good too. You can fly that cool e-170 or crj-900

I heard this from an unreliable source who doesn't know anyone. They're gonna shut down the ATL GO and send all the operational and support functions to SKW. Everyone in ATL GO will be required to reapply for their jobs. ASA will just be a large station with a puppet mgmt. Pooperscooper will be responsible for the "Spirit of ASA" lav cart. Two can play the game.
