Fatigue policy needs change, as well as sick policy. Something that mirrors more what Skywest has. Which is ironic since they are the non-union carrier.
Nah, we need better than what SKYW has...It's not that great. I think we can do better.
You will never face discipline for calling in fatigued at ASA. You do open yourself up to discipline when calling in sick when you really are not sick. (I get that it's difficult to prove that you weren't sick and that the financial pressures of the current policy are bogus.)
Proration needs to go away as well as the financial pressure for fatigue calls.
Realistically, however, there will be pilots who choose to abuse any fatigue/sick policy that might be created, therefore screwing the guys who are genuinely fatigued and/or sick.
Genuine, sincere, inflammable question: Does anyone have any suggestions for a policy that encourages responsible use of fatigue/sick calls yet is fair to the pilot group?
