Its just a matter of time before some poor F/O gets mowed down by a ramper on a tug during their walkaround.

...and they make us wear those orange vests like the Canadians try to push on you.

If a guy doesn't notice he's bearing down on the large, stationary airplane you're walking around--is your little orange vest going to matter?

A driverless tug ain't got no eyes, Buooooy!

I've been flyin fr8 into ATL every weekday night for 7 months. MX, weather, mid-airs, all are a piece of cake to deal with. I've been almost taken out 8 times by ground vehicles. Standing on both brakes and using full reverse I have nearly crashed into ; two delta pickups, one catering truck, one little asig tug, one huge tug (missed by 5 feet), one crew van, one TSA car, and (drum roll) a 10,000 gallon rolling ASIG fuel truck bomb. So watch um' north of Alpha and where the road crosses Dixie north of Lima. Maybe now that I'm leave n the Caravan behind I'll get some respect. Be careful out there the flight is not over 'till the last piece stops move'n.

It is especially dangerous when your staring up at the horizontal stab during the preflight with 3-4 bag tugs all parked near the cargo bay; each one decides to leave at the same time and it is not single file. I was almost run down last week and not even a "sorry bout' dat". Be careful.

ps..i see Mary Jane burned rubber from ASA. Best of luck to her. She is a very nice lady!

It would be instructional to see statistics on this, but I'll bet that it's statistically almost as dangerous for us to walk to and from our aircraft as it is to fly them. I'd guess that there are no solid statistics of how many fatalities and serious injuries occur on the ramp to flight crew.

By the way, incredibly poor form for anyone to make a racial comment on this. As yet, I'm don't know if anyone actually got killed in this incident.

Speaking of ASIG, had one of their vans (the one that drops off the fuelers) completely ignore a wing walker and drive right infront of us as we were about to cross the ramp line to park. Suprised there aren't more injuries or damage done out there.

Back to the thread, how are we so sure that the FAA report is wrong again?

Certainly the rumors of fatalities were everywhere and the report says there were . . .
