Has anyone tried to send there resume to ASA through there website link? It seems to take forever for the e-mail to go through. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem. Thanx.

does anyone know why ASA is recruiting so aggressively right now? also what is the fail rate in groundschool and the upgrade time.

thanx

They're recruiting aggressively because people are fleeing the company. "The beatings will continue until morale improves" has become the unspoken management motto at ASA.

There doesn't seem to be much of a problem with people failing training, at least from what I understand. The training is great.

Don't know about exact upgrade times, but I've been here for a little over 3 years and from my cursory looks at the awards posted in the crew lounge I'm maybe 120-150 numbers from the most junior Captain.

Advice......Dont come to ASA to upgrade. Come to ASA because it fits your QOL, i.e. bases, commuting, etc. We fly great equipment, to some cool destinations coast to coast. It will most likely take a new hire 5 or more years to upgrade, my guess is a lot more.

Keep in mind upgrade and reserve times are always subject to change.

When I got to ASA I was told upgrade was in 5 years. I upgraded in 18 months. You just never know. It all depends on how many people flee/retire/quit/etc. FYI there are a lot of pilots from ASA going to Airtran, FedEx and UPS now.

Dispite the negative additude on this board Im about to start training at ASA (June 20). Why did I choose ASA? And no I didnt just pick it because they are the one that hired me, it was the only regional that I applied for. I chose it for a few reasons. One being that they only have 2 hubs therefore Im not going to get bounced around the conutry. Also, ATL is an easy commute for me so Im not leaving the past 21 years of my life. Also, dispite this board people seem to be happy there and like the company. There will always be grips but think about this... People voice their opinion when they are unhappy, however they rarly voice it when they are happy. Hense why message boards are so negative. Yes upgrade time here is one of the highest of the regionals. However I look at that in two ways. One, as someone else explained to me once, dont pick a regional based on quick upgrade time because if you are already seeing the quick upgrade it will be gone by the time you get ready to upgrade. Also, ASA is getting new aircraft and upgrade time is still high. To me that says that people arnt fleeing the company because they are happy. Im going into this company knowing life for the first year is going to be hell in every way possible but after that it will get better. With this mentallity I cant be let down. Also, after being on call 24/7 for a charter company for the past 12 months that reserve shedule sounds awesome. I mean come on, you get a few days off a month, you are only on call 14 hours, a day. Thats a dream shedule! Another thing to consider, a lot of the guys at ASA (and other regionals) are fresh out of training or just quit a job flight instructing. No offense to them but they dont know what working for a 135 charter is like. From my experience with 2 of them Id work at Wal-Mart before Id work for another one! Breaking regs everyday, risking your life in crappy planes, no strick policies, no rteal days off, no rest, etc.

Pilots are leaving ASA due to disatisfaction. I know of a couple who are leaving and making lateral moves to fractionals and some have left the business all together.

If you want to come here so be it but don't be angry when you are on reserve and your quality of life is less then zero. Our scheduling department is dysfunctional to say the least and the new contract is no where in sight.

First year pay is a shame, but it's not hell in everyway possible. Try spending your next 90 days in the Middle-East not knowing if it's your last day alive. Now, that's a hell in everyway possible. I know that you just made that statement above because your suppose to say that on this board, otherwise you will get bashed for actually enjoying your airline job. Have a great day.....

I agree vipero1. Im not complaining about this because I choose it but I also chose to get out of it. Here is a day in the life of my old charter job. I was flying a Falcon 10 right seat, only 1 crew for an aircraft that had a 45 minute dispatch time 24/7. We might get a call telling us to be there within 45 minutes for a flight. SInce they didnt tell us anything different we assumed we would be back the same day or the next day, a week later we are still gone... Or we have an 8am departure and return at noon. We are still good to fly until 10pm so we had to be ready. However if we didnt get another flight by 10pm we went off duty at noon so we wou could start back at 10pm... TAWS? Whats that, we didnt need it. Backup fuel pump? We had another one on the engine, didnt need it. Why are we leaving tonight when we dont have to pick up the passengers till mid day tomorrow? Because when you answered the phone you told me you were having dinner with your parents and hoped it wasnt for a trip. I am the dispatcher and Ill tell you when and where I want you, you are the pilot and nothing more... The plane is down for mx so we could get time off, they wouldnt tell us until it was done. Not to mention in 4 months there was not one day when I could turn my phone off. All for 50k year. Yeah the money was good but money doesnt do any good without QOL

So next time you complain about being on reserve, think about how much worse it could be. And now go back and read what I just wrote again and think about how much worse it could still be. There are people in this world that would die for a job as good as my old job. The bottom line is that if we are alive to complain about something it cant be that bad.

Also, keep in mind newhires aren't sitting reserve for more than a few months after training.

Well, at least ATL CR2 newhires.

Sorry about those ATR lines boys.

I voice my positive opinion often and am not a favorites, like I care. Welcome to ASA. I look forward to flying with you Zach.:) It isn't bad here. Scheduling is a problem but, most of us are perfectly happy here. BTW, most of us feel that the new contract is going to be here by years end.

sorry I missed you Saturday at the zoo av8tor. hugs and kisses....

Yes, but thats NEXT year.

To anyone considering a job at ASA, I would say, be careful. The reason so many pilots here are unhappy is plain and simple. Things have steadily gotten worse since the initial dual-honeymoon of new contract and Delta buy-out. The company is constantly ratcheting up the pain and contract abuse at a fairly good pace.

There is no good reason for this. The company has seen zero productivity gains as a result. We are a safe, professional and extremely productive workgroup. We deserve better because we earn it every day.

We are steadily being turned into a closeknit. bitter, unproductive bunch of whiners who may very well rather the place be burned down than take any more abuse.
