No matter how militant we may be, or not be, at ASA, I dont really see how we can do much better in these negotiations. Its like when I was a little kid and I wanted something, I could jump up and down or scream and pout, but I didnt always get what I wanted. I'm sure the guys at Comair didnt want their pay and work rules raped, but what was the choice? What is our choice at ASA? Stand strong for a big, bar-raising contract, that will either see us stagnate or worse, just to be ripped away in a few years anyway under more threats. I just think our CNC really has their work cut out for them. I know I want more, more, more....but I'm sure its not realistic to think we can get it now! How can we get more money when Comair just took cuts that are already below our rates? When SkyWest makes 50 pay for the 70? When Mesa and CHQ are already below our rates? I dont think its possible to get more. I think the most we can hope for is to improve the work rules and QOL issues that are already below industry standard. We may act like we're so much tougher than Comair, but really, what can they do. I have friends there, and they had tough choices to make. As far as ASA, or more specifically my job, there is a point where this job is not worth it, and that point is pretty close for me. That said, I still dont think we can ask, or expect to get much out of these negotiations.
