ASA open time swap question

I was under the impression that it was an instant swap thing, but it seems this is not the case.
I tried to swap a 4 day for 2 2 days and it is just sitting in the queue a day later. What did I miss?

IF there were any chance that they'd approve an open time swap (which they never do because we must have 200 FOs on reserve at all times [exaggeration but it's always denied due to staffing]

They won't process open time swaps until final schedules are published (at 5pm today right at the buzzer as normal)

Sked+ is on lock down from the 14th to the 21st of every month, transactions that touches the last 6 days of the month cannot be processed until the 20th.

This is the biggest flaw in our current system....we get our schedules so ridiculously late.

As a result...reserves get it even later and open time goes on lockdown for a week.

It may not be a loophole... But it does not make any of this ok. I get that open time swaps might mess up final schedule awards....but it should not take this long to get final schedules.

I agree, but this was not a "loophole that nobody saw". It was a well known issue that was necessary. In my mind it was worth it to eliminate integration days and get the final award sooner than under our previous system. Remember we got the preliminary award earlier but the post-integration final award later.

The biggest problem with award timeliness is how late we get schedule information from the mainline partners. I fully agree though that reserves get their schedules ridiculously late. I'm all for making improvements to the situation in the next contract.

Fact: Under our previous line bidding system, Final Schedules for lineholders were not published until the 27th of every month.

Fact: Under PBS and the LOA 11, Final Schedules for lineholders are published on the 20th at 1700.

Fact: Under our previous line bidding system, Reserve Schedules were not published until the 27th or a day or so later.

Fact: Under PBS and the LOA 11, Reserve Schedules are published on the 26th at 1700. This is an improvement of one or more days.

I agree with everyones frustration over this. However the problem lies in when we receive the "flying pot" from the mainline partner. Once received it needs to be sorted and put into our machine and sorted. It is mostly driven by Big D, and their timeline. I wonder now with other "Mainline" partners if we could get some improvements on this.

Fact: Under PBS, Reserve pilots in most positions was reduced from 25+% to around 15+%.

Fact: According to previous PBS communications, 183 more pilots held lines the first month PBS was implemented.

Fact: With PBS, there are few pairing conflicts, and open time has been reduced in some positions to a very few trips.


Fact: In today's world, there are about 40% less Reserves than under linebidding. Reserves are primarily used for sick calls, trip failures (commuter clause pilots), and then the occasional disruption by IROPS.

Fact: According to statements made by the Vice President of Flight Operations in the crew lounge a couple of years ago, the Company does not and never will staff for pilots to cover swaps. The cost would be too much, and the integrity of the operation would be compromised.

Fact: With PBS and the resultant fact of less Reserves, it reduces Reserve coverage throughout the month, and thereby reducing coverage for possibilities of swaps. When a pilot attempts a swap, for it to be approved, there has to be a surplus of Reserve coverage on each day of the trip that the Company acquires in your swap. They will not make decisions that puts the integrity of the operation in jeopardy. Scheduling's singular mission is to make sure all flying is covered and that there is some adequate coverage each day for unknown events.

Doesn't also have to do with how long it takes for the line award to be massaged to get an adequate award? Hasn't there been delays? When we did Delcon flying, our final line award was in the 2nd week of the month.

And I'm willing to bet that at this very moment the awards are complete and probably have been for a couple of days but they are waiting until exactly 1700 today to post them.
