the training guy giving us a stand ride the other day didn't know of any new hire classes in the works.

Keep hope alive for those of you in the pool!!! Their are so many people leaving that we wont have enough pilots to cover all the flying. I was talking with the ladies in the CPO, they said one pilot quit last week {a total of 5 quit last week} (think wed night) left his Jepps, poh, fom and ID at the chief pilots door with his letter.

Another good one I heard was of a female FA who on purpose missed her duty-in waited for crew SCH to call her and told them she quit and would mail her ID and Manual.

Soon they will clear the pool just keep those floaties on.

Could be, I was told our pilot list was "right sized" right now.

Anybody else in the pool get a call from pilot recruiting yesterday asking for updated times and availability for a class in the near future???

Yeah I got a call from Greg this afternoon. Same as jacksjj: wanted updated times, et cetra. He said "they " hadn't told him about a class date but it was a good indicator they were getting ready to set one. He also said a few people had taken jobs elsewhere, one had quit flying altogather, etc.
Could it be that our days in the pool are numbered?

Look, y'all trying to get on with ASA, I'm curious why you're holding out here instead of appling to Repubic/Shaniqua/Scuttle America, Mesa, Skywest, CoEx, ect.

Have you looked at our starting pay compared to the others? Have you looked at our contract? Have you heard the horror stories here about how poor they treat us? Have you heard the rumor that we are going to be bled to death and replaced by Skywest? Have you heard that we may strike before that happens?

I'm truly curious. Why on Earth would anyone want to come work at ASA right now?

John is right - SkyWest will probably have an ATL base and it will surely go e x t r e e m l y junior. ASA isn't the worst airline to fly for, far from it, but you would need to have very low expectations for upgrades and pay.

Its called being optimistic. Alright, VERY optimistic.

I just bought a place about 15 minutes from the airport, and the idea of a cummute doesnt sit well with me. Everyone I know has said time and time again "DO NOT COMMUTE...your life will suck" Its either commute 15 minutes to work at an okay airline... or commute 5 hours or whatever, pay for a crashpad on my already stretched out budget, only to work for another okay airline, maybe a little better of one. No thanks, I will suck it up here and ride it out.

Maybe when and IF Skywest opens a domicile here or does a ton of flying out of here.... then I will hop on over. Until then... it just doesnt seem worth the hassle of everything that goes with commuting. And I dont care how bad everyone says ASA is... you should go work at the place I instructed at for almost a year. If I can work there... I can work anywhere. 60 hour weeks for $130 paychecks, with a jacka$$ boss, and HORRIBLE 172s? I think Ill take my chances at ASA.

I dont know... maybe Im being too optimistic about the situation. Maybe everyone on here b!tching and moaning is right. You guys probably know more than I do. But still... I gotta do what I gotta do.

I just hope I get a class at "this crappy airline" sometime in the near future so I can make my own decisions about it.

Newsflash!!! They probably live in Atlanta or nearby!!! You talk like everybody who gets a new regional job has the ability and want to pick up and move to wherever the best regional at the moment may be.

Newsflash, "tool", aftyer you've worked at as many airlines as I have, you'll realize that it's better to move for a good job than settle for a close one you'll hate!

TC hit the nail on the head. The "No Commute" deal is why allot of guys ended up at ASA. Let's face it, ASA is not that bad of a place to be compared to Pinnacle, Trans States, Mesaba and Mesa to name a few. Once our deal is done, things should impove fairly quickly.

As our MEC has stated, RP, Mesa and SKW are due to go into negotiations very soon and will go through the same strife we are in now.

True they're about to go into negotiations, but they're starting out ahead of where we are. And their management's love of growth will probably preclude 4 years of negotiations.

With CASS bringing the jumpseat back, commuting isn't bad. I did it for years. I still say it's better to commute to a good job than stay with a crappy one.

By your own reasoning, you don't believe that these carriers mgmnts would love to drag it out as long as possible? They can argue that your salary is already high so what more do you want? Mesa is in for a battle if JO lives up to his rep. Also SKW is in for a fight with JA if this ZOLTAR doc is legit and the mystery CR7 rate that never appeared.

But they can't reasonably bid for flying (Delta RFP and future RFPs) unless they have the fixed costs that come with a settled contract. ASA has never expected to bid for flying until recently.

Even JO will be motivated to resolve the dispute quickly. I don't think he'll give them anything good. MESA and RP already have a new stick to beat them with in the RFP. It will be settled quickly.

SKY Inc. can and will bid on the flying and then they will decide who to give it to SKY/ASA. Hm let me think......... I'll take whipsaw for 600 please.

Don't forget JP, Mesa and RP are known bottom feeders and thier mgmnt likes it that way. No matter how hard the pilot group may try to push JO and the rest of the good ol boys will push even harder.

You can't keep making sweetheart deals paying your people much abv min wage :-)

Okay, possibly dumb question, but how do you know if you are really in the pool? I interviewed in late May. I received a letter that said that I had completed my interview and simulator evaluation. It said that ASA had to complete a pre-employment DOT drug screen, FBI, NDR, and background records check. If they received positive results from those evaluations, I might be placed in the pilot amongst other very competitive applicants and future interviewees.

So, am I even in the pool? Did y'all get some sort of notification of your pool status?

The letter that I got after I interviewed, said that I was in the pool, and was offered a "conditional letter of employment". I would be offered class based on a successful drug screening and background check. 6 mos later I was in class. Now that I am done with training, trust me, I want you all out of the pool probably more than you want out of the pool. Because my relief line SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If youre not hired... you would know it. Granted, my "youre hired" letter was a little vague... but from what I understand, the "youre not hired" letter is very straight forward.

However, its been a while, huh? I was beginning to wonder the same thing.
