Wll good luck to you and your ambition. Probably 90% of the Captains are just as ambitious as you are, and didn't think they would be here right now either. If you are willing to sign a substandard contract just so you can get that 1000 PIC you are an idiot. Getting out isn't a sure thing, unless you want to change careers.
I disagree. Most of the Captains I work with get comfortable. They haven't updated a resume or logbook in 10 years.
Here is the list:
1. Airtran: I don't know about them/ it's a lateral move
2. Southwest: I'm not going to get a type rating for an interview it's BS/ They're day in the sun is almost over when the fuel hedge runs out.
3. Continental: Can't take first year pay
4. Cathay: They don't have a Union I don't trust them
5. Emirates: I have a family/ It's in the middle east/ No union
6. FedEX: I can't work behind the clock or I like PAX
7. UPS: see FedEx
8. NetJets: Sure you make more but 7 on 7 off... I can't handle it
Other favorites:
1. My dad worked for Delta. I had the interview/job and then 9/11... So I guess I'm here for a while.
2. I interviewed with XYZ airline. I answered every question perfectly but for some reason I didn't get the job.
Changing jobs is scary I've done it more than most at this company. Moving is also scary.
The truth is most of you are happy and wouldn't change a thing. You have your 15 days off. You understand the system. Assuming you don't get major brain damage every checkride for the rest of your life will be a joke. Who knows with some luck you might one day hold the 70 and make $98 an hour.
Sorry if I think the above looks like a sad future. Sorry if I don't want to be making excuses for the rest of my career.
