So I'm at the ALPA Job fair today and I hear some ALPA reps. talking about meeting with management this week. Sounds like they are meeting to finalize some language that was agreed to in the last negotiations. Why doesn't either side tell us about this? If we are meeting this week to finalize language that was agreed to, we should be informed. Sounds like some progress was made, so why the big secret? Give us this information.

Well Scott talked to our recurrent class yesterday and said just that. So... One side talked about it. Why didn't ALPA say this? Well they did... We also had an ALPA lunch which they said that MGT will say that we "TA'd" a bunch of stuff and we are meeting to finalize the language. Which is EXACTLY what Scott said. However we cannot TA anything outside of being with the mediator.

This is very simple. If there is truly an end game on the horizon, both are posturing to declare themselves as the winner. Remember Slick Willy finishing 3rd in New Hampshire and declaring himself the "Comeback Kid". It isn't about who wins, it who is PERCEIVED as the winner.

Finalized language means they finally decided whether to use a semicolon or a comma.

So how was that Air Inc. seminar today? Worth your time or waste of time?

YKnot

There was some good gouge. Too bad we need it, but it is time to leave. We instructors are getting the shaft in this contract by both sides. At least I got a free Air Inc Seminar out of the deal.

Would it be so difficult to put this out to the pilots? I asked an ALPA rep. why they haven't put this out, and they said they want the pilots to remain pissed so that they keep up the safety campaign. YGTBSM! If progress was made, and if we are meeting then tell us. Don't treat us like darn mushrooms by feeding us sht and keeping us in the dark.

Exactly. You guys are making a bigger deal about this than it actually is. The issues were close to TA'd, and all the concepts were agreed upon. However, the language had to be run past each sides' lawyers. The final drafts will be reviewed and signed, and then the sections will be TA'd.

There is no negotiating taking place here. All the negotiating has been completed. All this is a signing of documents, similar to a grievance settlement or the like.

Hey, don't be too flip about that. Seriously. It may seem ludicrous to argue the punctuation, but considering the way hairs get split in arbitration it actually may make a difference.

This has happened before and it means nothing unless it's in front of the mediator.

This meeting is no big deal.
Let's say you went to buy a car on monday. You took it for a test drive and loved it.
You talked to the salesman and agreed upon a price out the door.
You shook hands and said I will come by on friday to sign the paperwork.

That is all that is happening with ALPA and ASA. They agreed on these sections MONTHS ago, and are just signing for it now. As stated before the language differences matched, just mior puncuation changes.

I'm surprised "Joe" hasn't turned this into another ALPA bashing thread.

Why should I..... If they are meeting and they are making progress, then that is a good thing..... We need to get this done.....

I do find it humorous that we have to find out about this on FI, when ALPA could have put it in a Connection/VARS/email.... but who cares as long as they meet and they continue to make progress....

I am more concerned about how ALPA is going to deal with the portfolio whipsaw.... they got a plan yet????

Update. Went to the ALPA lunch. They said Skywest is in a Union vote now. Three month process... They danced around the question but the short story is don't expect anything for at least three months.

The company doesn't want the union so they can't give anything.

The Union can't take anything that isn't sweet (and by sweet I mean totally awesome)

Everyone calm down you have a three month wait at the least.

As I said..... the ASA pilots are pawns in a game between Jerry and ALPA.... It is up to the ASA pilots if they want to be used as pawns.....

If such great progress was made in the last rounds of negotiations, then why didnt they meet the full 4 days? Nothing will get done until there is a deadline in place.

Thanks for the update, Mank.

I find this extremely hard to believe that an ALPA rep would actually say this, given their knowledge of the legal ramifications of admitting to an organized status quo violation.

Please pm me the initials of this rep so that it can be followed up on. Our reps don't need to be saying stupid things like this in public. Sometimes their rhetoric escapes better judgment.
