Uh, ever heard of PBS?
Years ago, I complained about the lack of communication from the union. I was asked "why don't you step up and volunteer instead of complaining?"
I answered "I'd be happy to! what can I do to help?"
I was told THEN AND THERE "Well, we don't have any available spots on that committee"
Good tactics
That's pretty much what happened to me when I volunteered.
Well, in fairness, many people want to be on the Safety, Hotel, or Scheduling committee. Most are interested only so they can go to one or two meetings and then put it on their resume. The MEC can't have a committee of 50 people doing nothing, and I'm sure that's why you were sent away.
There are a few committees that are either unfilled, or have only one or two members. Pick those out to get started. Once everybody sees you doing good work, then you can probably get on the committee you really want to be on. Keep bugging them. Persistence counts, and somebody who is persistent usually gets what they are after.
Or, just run for office. Two of the MEC positions and two of the LEC 113 positions went to people who ran unopposed.
