Can someone explain what the pilot benefits package exactly consists of. Primary focus being:
1. Family medical plan (are both spouse and you covered and how much does it cost),
2. Dental;
3. 401k;
4. Loss of license ins.;
5. Holidays
6. Ability to work overtime in the first year;
7. Airplane assingnments (how done, and chance for a cr700);
8. Total cost of uniform.

My two cents...

1/2. There are three levels, employee only, employee and spouse, and family. They just raised the premiums this year. I pay $35/mo for just me with dental.

3/4. 401k is 6% match depending on years of service. The company offers loss of license insurance but I think you're better off getting it through ALPA or a third party.

5. Umm, you'll be junior so you work them?

6. If you're not on reserve you can pick up open time. Good luck trying to make stuff fit in a relief line or getting swaps approved though. Some guys are masters at this, I however am not.

7. Airplane assignments are based on need and seniority based on date of hire. Probably mostly 200, with a few ATR slots thrown in. I doubt the 700 will get many more new hires but I could be wrong. You don't want it because you'll be on reserve forever anyway. It all pays the same the first year anyway.

8. I guess $400-500 if you buy everything suggested (I didn't). A lot of guys buy pants on their own, or skip the blazer and go with the leather jacket. You can payroll deduct the uniform cost over the year so it won't hurt as bad. Also get your class together and buy the hats from Bancroft and save some cash.

A family is considered 4 or more. I have a family of 5, and we are covered with medical and dental for $65.00 a pay check. $130.00 per month.

Just one minor correction regarding the 401K. The match is a percentage of the first 6% you contribute, based on years of service, not a straight 6% match. Best you can do is a 75% match of your first 6%, which works out to 4.5% of your pay, after 7 years of service. Optimistically, we should be just about finished with our new contract by the time you hit the 7 year mark, so it should get better.

According to the latest Prelim award, I can not hold CR700 and I just started my 3rd year here. It is very sr in atl, and extremely sr in SLC. Plan on 200 or atr.
