Does ASA have a commuter clause of any type, also do they allow you to do outside employment??
 
We don't have one, but it's high on the list in negotiations.

Management claims they are "Philosophically opposed to anything that would allow pilots to irresponsibly show up late for work". They also say it would "discriminate against employees who don't commute".

I guess they don't see the value of reducing sick calls and increasing employee reliability and morale.
 
Management is "philosophically opposed" to anything that could possibly improve morale here, in ANY employee group.
 
ASA commuter clause= get to work or you are fired.
Why? Mgmt thinks everyone's life is 9-5 at the DeathStar followed by a drive down 85 in our nice cars to Peachtree City.

Put simply, we're a modern jet carrier with the heart and soul of a Bandit outfit. Management believes that:

(1) pilots do not get sick,

(2) have families, or...

(3) have lives outside of the cockpit.
Somewhere on this board, I read that at American, you can call in sick forty times a year as long as you have doctor notes. Try that at ASA, and you'll be summarily executed.
 
This is How it works for you newbies and curious...

If you call in sick, doctors note or not, you are charged with an "occurance". If you amass I think 3 "occurances" in 6 months you recieve a letter to meet with the Cheif Poo. Then on your 4 "occurance" you recieve a written warning letter to be placed in your personel file to prevnet you from ever leaving ASA. Then on your 5 "occurance" you get a written letter of Termination. On your 6th occurance you get FIRED!

The way to cope with being sick (FOR REAL SICK) is to get a doctors note, then call the Cheif Pilots office and request FMLA (Family Leave ACT) paperwork. Then within 20 days of your Dr appointment Have the Dr fill out the 30 pages of questions in the FMLA packet and Fax it to the GO. If after all that IF you are approved for FMLA you will not get an occurance for your absence.

Fars require us to fly in good health, and if not in good health, we are not to operate an aircraft. ASA thinks obviously does not agree with the FARs.

I hope the company does try to fire a pilot for a legitimate sick call. Not only could such pilot get this place shut down by the FAA, they would probably own the company after their wrongful termination lawsuit.

Several pilots have already gotten the "you must maintain perfect attendance for the next six months or risk termination" letter. These pilots should go to the FAA and show them this evidence of this coersion to fly sick in violation of the FARs.
