Well the new parking plan has been operating for 4 days. To me, it seems more efficient. No problems parking, and especially quick times for the ramp to park us. Maybe the management is headed in the right direction on certain items.

Anyone else noticing the same thing with parking on C?




"Straight in and straight out Concourse C gets new parking design


The Atlanta station on Dec. 1 converted to a new aircraft parking design on Concourse C to allow straight-in parking for all aircraft. This change will eliminate the left, right and center configuration previously used. The change provides better visibility and identification of parking spaces – or 'stands' as they're known.

And with this change comes updated verbiage when assigned a parking spot. Upon arrival into ATL, crews will be given parking assignments in accordance with the new parking stands – rather than gates. For example, when assigned parking stand number 35, it should not be confused with Gate 35.

The new parking configuration also offers improved gate management as each aircraft is assigned its own parking stand. All but three parking stands can accommodate both the CRJ200 and CRJ700.

The new Concourse C parking design provides 26 parking stands – down from the 32 stands previously available. However, ASA recently acquired four gates on Concourse D. The new parking design coupled with the additional gates on Concourse D provide a sufficient number of gates for the schedule and the airline gains several additional CRJ700 parking spots. The new parking configuration is the first step in the $20 million, two-year-long project to renovate Concourse C. "
 
Thank God. Your headline made me think it was a thread about losing lot 3.

We had one brief problem on Dec. 1st with C. But hey, it was day one.

It's coming...hopefully later rather than sooner. Any idea where we might go when it goes? Clark Howell isn't big enough now.
 
Somewhere off of Riverdale Road is what Im hearing.

And the C parking would be great if I ever get to use it. Since aquiring more gates at D (32,34,36,) that seems to be where Ive been stuck everytime.

Last night was my first night back in ATL in a looooong time. I told ramp we were ready to push from "Charley thirty-five," and she told us "straight back, mains on the line." We were almost done pushing when she called back and asked, "where did you say you were? I need to know the stand number." I didn't have a copy of the new plan with me and was looking around like a lost dog, trying to find a stand number when my ATL-based F/O said, "tell her your from Dallas."

So I did.

And she said, "oh. Okay."
 
Unfortunately, that Dallas excuse isn't valid too much longer.

You said Charlie 35, not stand 35, so its the towers fault!
 
I haven't looked too carefully at the memo we got. Are the gate #s simply called stand #s now, or is the configuration completely different?

My question is... Why does it take you guys so long to call for taxi clearance once you push back. Is it your operating procedure to start an engine after the push back is complete or can you start an engine during actual pushback. Also do you guys taxi on one engine or 2. I'm assuming one because I see the ATR's always taxing with 1 engine. Just curious. Thanks

Yes, in most cases you can have one or even both engines started by the time the push is complete. However--assuming you do things "by the book"--you can't accomplish the After Start check until after the tug's disconnected and the nosewheel is clear.

But that checklist only takes about ten seconds...I haven't really noticed that we take any longer than anyone else.

Company procedure calls for a single-engine taxi if taxi time is expected to exceed fifteen minutes. In practice, it's generally captain's discretion. Weight is a factor, too. If you're close to max. takeoff, you might need as much as 60% N1 to get the thing rolling on one engine and, as far as I'm concerned, that's just not safe on the ATL ramp...too many tugs and rampers to get blown over.

I guess the rolling delays are getting to me. Every day I fly it seems I get home later and later due to wheel up times being in execess of an hour or two. Thanks for the info on your operations though.

Yes, but those are from ATC and not from our company.

You don't see the ATR's sitting there. Most times we have to hit the brakes to let the pushback tug get out of out way. :)
 
What's really annoying is at the gate, you can't see what stand you are at. So if you don't have it memorized, you are looking around to see other stand numbers, or asking the ramper what gate you are at. And at night time, forget it, those numbers are hard to see.

I heard from the parking guru ("L" from upstairs) while on the bus that Lot 3 and Clarke Howell will be gone in 1 year. We will be parking remotely off of Riverdale Rd somewhere. One huge lot for everyone.
