Who cares! According to ouasa we hit 100% completion factor yesterday! Congratulations!

Couldn't believe what I saw in EVV ops the other week. While back there I laid eyes on a chart that illustrated both on time and completion factor for December, throughout the DCI system. ASA was #2 in both rankings- beating out Skywest and Comair in both categories. Expressjet and Republic lead the way, respectively.

Ah, glad I didn't work yesterday- enjoying my 5 days off with some cold beer. For those that are working- good luck and here's to you (Chug)!

ATL was never a good de ice airport. In the 9 years I was based there, I can count on one hand the number of events that required a type IV.

It's just not built for that...nor is it economical to make redisigns for such rare events.

Supposed to snow again on Friday for my commute to work....uh oh.

Going up today...ought to be just peachy.....

If soooo, why isn't this made loud and clear to the folks at ASA? I just don't buy it: Did you mean that ASA was #2 from the bottom?

Awww, who really cares? The first thing that folks look for is a cheap ticket. Beyond that, all is gravy.

Good luck brother...sorry I can't split the cab this round. At least da Trany doesn't require the silly 25 bucks anymore.

have a good trip

ATL-GRR scheduled block 1:56
ATL-GRR actual block 4:09

4-5 planes pulled out of the de-ice line and did a tactile check. They determined that their a/c were clean and departed. My problem was that my plane had been sitting for 4 hours before departure and was covered with slush and snow. On another note, we had a mom and dad with an infant and little girl and neither kid made a sound the whole time. They deserve an award.

Who did the tactile check? Are you saying the crew got out and did this?

Wait a minute.... I thought our seats were "Delta seats".... Do they not understand that the passengers in "our" planes are "their" passengers....

Oh well... just tell the passengers that Delta doesn't care about them......

I include that in every PA in so many words. Every delay, every wait for a gate, every late bag or pax miscount includes the phrase Delta ramp agents, Delta operations, Delta bag handlers or Delta gate agents in some subtle way.

See? We can agree on some things!

Delta and the city should be prepared for better de-ice scenarios than just 3-4 planes an hour with 50 planes waiting in line. If delta is going to kick rj's out of line for the de-ice pad, then delta should be paying for hotels for everyone on the those planes, because it was DELTA that decided to cancel it. True, this doesn't happen often in atlanta, but how hard is it to honestly to not see this coming. I emphasis Delta, because they control all passenger handling, baggage handling, ramp ops, de-icing (for delta branded flights) and if they really want to have the smug attitude that they're better than DCI carriers, then they should start acting like it.

5 minutes is all you get ..

A few airplanes taxied onto Ramp 5 north. The FO got out and performed a tactile check. They found no contaminants and they launched.

From the time the FO touched the wing the clock starts. You're telling me that you were able to get back in the aircraft, taxi out and takeoff within 5 minutes .... not in the ATL that I know. Asking for a lot of trouble if something ... no, anything goes wrong. I wouldn't do it. Good luck to you, be safe.

The more I think about this the more I realize that these crews really are on a slippery slope. You are describing a portion of the “pre-takeoff contamination check”. Which by definition is done when the holdover time has been exceeded. They never did deice/anti-ice so no holdover time was ever established. Further I don’t think that it is an acceptable argument in this case to use a “representative surface” because the whole of the aircraft and the critical surfaces where never inspected as they would have been during the deice operation.

At this time the weather was 0 C and light rain (from ATIS). Nothing was sticking to the airplane by 10pm when this scenario happened. This late at night every third airplane was launching without deicing.

We taxied out and drove around for 3.5 hrs and never even got to leave the RAMP!!! Line for de-ice was 50 planes deep and they wer finishing 3-4 planes per hour. Then Delta declared they weren't going to de-ice any more RJ's...their planes took precedence. Oh well...back to the gate

I de-iced and anti-iced a plane in 7 minutes, granted I was in an open bucket with minus 10 temps with a gentle northly breeze and one damn good driver, but please. Put the rjs in one line and have 2*2 (de-ice & anti-ice) trucks run a car wash. Then utilize the other trucks for mainline. How fricken simple is that? Well, not really. Considering it's Delta at their largest hub and it rarely snows in Hotlanta. I would love to get paid to sit back and drink hot cocoa in a warm enclosed bucket with 2 joysticks while aiming and shooting hot Kool-Aid on the wings of an airplane. I always liked to point and spray at a window when a little kid looked out at me. Priceless.
