Nexus to Texas: Alaska en route to Dallas starting in July
The cosmopolitan city features both cowboys and culture
February 11, 2005

Southern-loving Alaska Airlines employees will be kicking up their cowboy boots and yelling yee-haw when Alaska begins offering twice-daily, nonstop service between Seattle and Dallas/Fort Worth starting July 19, with daily same-plane service to and from Anchorage. **CENSORED**

The new Seattle-Dallas/Fort Worth service with Boeing 737 aircraft was announced Friday afternoon. An introductory fare of $148.50 each way from Seattle and $244 each way from Anchorage will be offered to customers who purchase tickets by the end of the month and fly before November 17.**CENSORED**

“This route opens up a new destination for our Alaska and Pacific Northwest passengers, as well as provides a new carrier choice for Dallas-area travelers,” said Gregg Saretsky, executive vice president of marketing and planning. “The addition of Dallas is a continuation of Alaska’s strategy to selectively expand our network from Seattle and was facilitated by another carrier’s recent suspension of service between Seattle and Dallas/Fort Worth.”**CENSORED**

Employees will find a wealth of activities to enjoy in Dallas and the surrounding areas, said Donna Hartman, corporate contributions administrator and a native of the Czech and German village of Schulenburg, Texas. **CENSORED**

“All ya’ll are gonna enjoy the good barbecue,” she said. **CENSORED**

Hartman said people in Alaska and Texas have a lot in common besides living in the two largest states of the union. Many people moved from Texas to Alaska during the oil boom and have stayed there.**CENSORED**

“People living in Alaska are very warm, they have a genuine, down-home spirit.**CENSORED** It’s the same way in Texas, people there are so friendly,” she said.**CENSORED**

Besides the people, Texas is worth visiting for the shopping, food and a multitude of entertainment options. Texas ranks second behind California as a leisure travel destination for U.S. residents, according to the Dallas Visitors and Convention center.**CENSORED**

Among the attractions in Dallas: the mesquite championship rodeo, Six Flags over Texas theme park, tours of the Ewing mansion from the TV show, the state fair and the Dallas' Farmers Market, one of the largest open-air markets in the country and, of course, major league sports teams including the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks.**CENSORED**

Dallas also is known for a rich cultural life.**CENSORED** The Arts District, anchored by the Dallas Museum of Art, is home to the historic Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and a world renowned sculpture art collection. **CENSORED**

The nation’s oldest regional theater company, The Dallas Theater Center, is located there. The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University has the most significant collection of Spanish art outside of Spain, featuring art from the ninth through the 20th centuries.**CENSORED**

The flights to and from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport are timed for convenient connections with Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air points throughout the Pacific Northwest, Canada and Alaska. Mileage Plan members will receive double miles on any Alaska Airlines-operated Dallas flight, through Aug. 31, 2005.**CENSORED**

During the past three years Alaska Airlines has expanded east and south, connecting Seattle with its customers’ favorite destinations. Dallas/Fort Worth is Alaska’s 12th destination added since 2001. **CENSORED**

All flights to and from Dallas/Fort Worth will be equipped with leather seats and Alaska’s recently launched digEplayer inflight entertainment system. The state-of-the-art system gives Alaska’s customers the choice of up to 20 full-length features including first-run movies and TV shows.
