"The pilot reported that he was able to keep the left wing up for only a few seconds before it contacted the runaway," federal investigators later noted.

Transport Canada releases Emergency AD regarding CRJ7 and CRJ9 landing gear
By Simon Hradecky
Transport Canada, mirrored by EASA, have issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive stating, that two recent occurrences involving CRJ9 and CRJ7s showed interference between the main landing gear door and the main landing gear fairing seal could prevent the main landing gear door from opening.

The occurrences referred to are probably:

Accident: Atlantic Southeast CRJ9 at Westchester on Sep 25th 2010, could not extend right hand main gear and Accident: Mesa Airlines CRJ7 at Chicago on Dec 15th 2008, unsafe left main gear.

The EAD requires CRJ7 and CRJ9 aircraft with serial numbers 10003 to 10313, 15001 to 15238 and 15240 to 15255 to be inspected within 50 flight cycles, all other CRJ7 and CRJ9 aircraft to be inspected within 600 flight hours.

A detailed inspection of the main landing gear fairing and seal, main landing gear door and adjacent areas is to be performed according to the Bombardier Alert Service Bulletin released Oct 18th 2010. If damage is found or parts are found missing instructions in the Alert Service Bulletin are to be followed.

Following that initial inspection the inspection is to be repeated every 600 flight hours.
