is arrow still flying?

anybody got any conditions / job / hiring info?

I don't know if there hiring but they just got a DC-10-10 on the ramp. To go with a pretty funky new paint job. You can see it on airliners.net. It was sad to see the Big A on the tail removed.
 
From what I've heard from some furloughed Arrow guys, the've been recalling for the past couple of months. Future of the company is rumored to be with the 10's, probably has something to do with RVSM etc. I've never flown for them, so this is all second hand information. Take it with a grain of salt.
Airlinepilotpay.com lists their info as first year FO pay at $59/hr with a 55 hr guarantee. $49/hr for FE. Not sure which seat they hire for though. That seems to be competetive for the DC-8. The rest of the info is at www.airlinepilotpay.com/arrow/arrow.htm
 
They have been known to hire into any seat that needs to be filled. I started sideways and moved to the right seat in just over a year. This was a while ago though. Arrow was a fun place to work (for a single guy) prior to the Fine buy out. I have not talked to anyone there recently bought I'm sure not much has changed. It's probably still a decent place to go for a couple years and get some heavy/int'l time.

Fine Air was fun. Arrow Air was full of better than thou **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** heads. They all left. The ones that stayed hated the Fine boys and weren't smart enough to realize if it weren't for ol man Frank they would have been out of a job.
 
It's been a while since the last post re Arrow Air, but...they are advertising for all seats...DC8 capt, $89/hr. See www.ppjn.com for more details re pay. Don't know anything else about them or their current situation.

I prefer hauling freight...No headaces from pax and or F/As among other things.

If ya are running late, or if there is a wx/loading/mx problem, ones goes in the back of the freighter and lies down in the bunk n' tell the loadmaster to wake ya up when things are ready..:D

Have flown for carriers with both pax and freight planes, I usually bid the freighter.
Easier and more relaxed.

Usually longer lay-overs also so one can go Honky-Tonking.:cool:

One great schedule I remember flying for a while:

LAX to Honolullu....4 days lay-over
HNL to Sydney......4 days lay-over
SNY to Hong Kong..4 days lay-over
Then back to LAX.

The whole rotation took 16 days, then off for 16 days.
Great for a bachelor...Flying from party to party, girlfirends all over the planet..

Aye, them were the days.:D

I hear ya !! I'm not allowed to have those kinda "days" anymore. Matter of fact, I'm not sure I ever had those kinda "days".

It's interesting that Arrow has posted their ad twice recently; not getting the replies they want ? You'd think with the industry on its butt lately, people would be knocking down their doors.

I'd think flying a quadrasaurus rex would be fun. It had a devoted following when DL had them.

That was Evergreen 16 years ago, 747 Quantas Cargo Contract.

Again, one was a bachelor, not chasing hours or days off, rather 2 weeks paid vacation every month....:D

No, ya don't see those deals working for a major.
BUT, the Delta guys made more dough, and had a better quality of life....I guess, unless ya were / are single.

Did quite a few years hauling long-range freight on DC-8s and B-747 before I got into the "major" pax business....AA pre-9/11.

Not sure I had more fun there..Stressed out after a condensed 4 day trip I was.
More so than a 4 week around the world cargo deal.

The money ain't there unless ya work for a mega-freight dog operation like UPS or Fed-Ex, but the fun-factor was indeed higher than the pax stuff.

The ultimate flying job, I'd say, be hauling freight in Thailand flying a C-185 with 2 hours on, 5 days off for $200,000.00 a year.

If ya guys hear about such a job, call me right away...I got the 185 time and more.:cool:

Is there anyone out there that knows about Arrow??? has any info??? They got out of bankruptcy in June...how are they doing?
 
Yes, Arrow is alive and kicking

I was just recently hired at Arrow. They have a new group of investors, new pilot management and quite a few new pilots -- everyone who wanted to come back post-furlough are back. They've "cleaned house" and are ready to NOT REPEAT mistakes they've made in the past. I'm very impressed by the training department and they are looking to hire "the right people with the right attitude." If you're a whiner, don't bother. They know they have a lot of work to do and they want people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get things done.

New people and new name. They are no longer Arrow Air, but Arrow Cargo. No more PAX, and a new paint scheme too. It seems like minutiae, but reflects a whole new change in attitude.

The latest rumors says they will have between 7 to 12 DC-10s by year's end (they got their first ones in summer of last year). They have been accepting the DC-10s as fast as they can come out of C-Check. They are competing for AMC contracts and are trying for other routes worldwide, not just S. America. To do that, though, they know they might need 747s, and that might be the rumor for next year. There's still a lot parked in the desert. For now, they are keeping the DC-10s BUSY and also leasing aircraft from other companies to meet the demand to move the cargo. They simply don't have enough aircraft or crews to make it happen at this time. So, they have A LOT of customers who want to use Arrow. That's always good news.

I understand that interviews are on hold for a month or two, as they have established a small bank of pilots for the next two DC-10s that come on line. For now, it appears 2,500 hours is the minimum but 4,000 to 5,000 hrs are competitive. That may lower in later interviews. They REALLY would prefer folks with DC-10 experience, although about half in my class have had no DC-10 time. The interview is with the chief pilot and chief of training in a VERY informal setting.

A LOR from someone in the company is your best bet, although a forthright and positive attitude in the interview will go a long way. Most of the people are going to the DC-10, although we've had some high-time guys hired in the left seat of the DC-8 in the last class. I haven't seen any right seaters hired into the DC-8 as of yet.

Pay is good, and upgrades should be swift for the next year. BTW, same pay for both aircraft. It's the right time to get on at Arrow, if you can.
