What I and my attorney strongly suspect is if in fact an airline is asking about arrests they are doing so only after an offer has been made as part of a security background check. As I said early on, this would be legal.

I think the main point is that the OP should not confess all in an interview until he or she discusses his specific situation with an attorney in the area where the hiring company operates, especially if the airline doesn't ask the question.
