Dont know how many of you know. Whenever flying in and out of Las Vegas, the "unpublished freq" for an unknown VOR is 117.50. It has voice capability and transmits weather from an airport called "local".

Someone is knocking on my door... two men dressed in black... hmm.. Ill get back to you.

See ya.

OMG... Big news there is a secret airbase in Nevada!!!! Who Knew? Geez they even have a terminal at LAS where they fly 737s that dont exist full of people they have never heard off to a airbase that doesnt exist... You have got to figure they have a non-published VOR that may or may not be there!

113.00 TTR VOR, ident: "TQQ" and weather info "S1"
113.90 Basecamp VOR, ident: "AEC"
116.40 Edwards AFB VOR, ident: "EDW"
117.20 Tonopah VOR, ident: "TPH"
117.50 Groom Lake VOR, ident: "MCY" and weather info

I was chatting with a retired SR-71 Driver a while back and he said Area 51 is now a complete and total distraction desighned to divert attention to the real super secret places. I guess since everyone and there dog knows about area 51 this sort of makes sense. Said that all the new super super secret stuff is in underground bases in the outback of Australia. Probably the least densly populated place on the planet. I've read about many crazy stories about UFO sightings and stuff from that area.

Area 51?

When I was flying the DFW to OAK runs in the 70, sometimes ATC would give us a direct from Tahoe to DFW when the Nellis range was closed. We flew over the "not there Tonopau" and you could easily see Groom lake. I used to show the pax the runways but the FA's used to get pissed because they said the pax's would stay awake and ask for things. There are Sat images of the place that anyone can find so showing the pax the area was OK. :erm: I Think!
