What if anything are the local unions (!or ALPA NATIONAL!) doing to ensure that DL's side deal with their mgt does not put the NW guys at risk for furlough? I know they have been said to have made a meeting to decide when they are going to have meetings to negotiate...but what kind of interim protections are in place?
...Or can mgt now furlough the NW guys at whim, while DL keeps new hires that started after newish NW guys? Speaking of DL new hires... Does the LOA side deal apply to ALL DL pilots on the property, or just those that were on the property (or on line?) at the time of signing? Meaning, are any classes that started after the deal protected from furlough or not? What would constitute "on the property"? (in training/on the line/what)?
Just curious how much the union MECs are anticipating the possibility (with everyone dropping like flies across the industry) that furlough reasons may pop up, and how that will be handled in the unique merger/side deal for one side, situation you guys are in?
Have the NW guys in the MEC done anything to secure the positions of their pilots (other than the senior ones)?

He is the voice of reason, everything he says is gospel, so of course, he has to type that way. He is, after all, the voice of reason.

If you include the subject line, that was at least seven questions.

Voice,

From what I understand, we do not have furlough protection. There is not even a drop of info flowing down from the meetings.

We've all seen the force majure clause used by airline management, so really the is no protection weather its in your contract or not.

Hopefully the merger is delayed till the smoke clears. I would hate Northwest pilots to lose their jobs for Delta parking MD88 or B757 or the other way around Delta pilots lose their jobs for northwest parking DC9.
Let the Merger stretch out while we fight over the seniority list.
That way if Northwest guys have their 60 yr olds leave they benefit solely. maybe with no merger of pilots they will be encouraged to leave at 60 yrs. that way we do not argue over list etc.
3 years from now we will have a better picture of what is going on as regards job expectations and the judge can decide the seniority list.
Good luck to both Delta and Northwest guys may we all find justice.

I too don't want to see this merger go through especially without a SLI. This is insane to vote in a LOA and then not get a vote on a SLI. WTFO who came up with this moronic decision. I feel like I am voting on an arranged marriage. Damned if I do and damned if I don't. I do agree though whichever if any airplanes are parked they must come off whoever's list they belonged to before the merger. I am an advocate for fences for at least another five years thanks to ALPA nationals decision to promote age 65 at a wonderful time in aviation...

An arranged marriage? Yes, I would equate it to an arranged marriage that is followed by a "Shotgun Wedding?" The real question is: What will the Wedding night and Honeymoon be like? DALPA wants you to be the submissive wife, and to do as they say, because they know what's best!

The husband of a friend of mine is a recent Delta hire. She said they got a letter from DALPA stating that they secured two years of furlough protection for all current Delta pilots as part of the deal. Any truth to this?

If so, it seems like there will be mass casualties in the NWA side only if and when Delta parks the DC-9s.

"furlough protection" is a term that sounds great, but the language really isn't all that great as far as holding up in court. The language reads they can't furlough for any reason related to the merger. There are a number of other reasons they could - oil, recession, terrorism, the tide, who wins the NBA finals, etc.

In the end, in court, as long as they can prove they had to furlough it will hold up. With oil the way it is, they shouldn't have a problem.

is this so called furlough protection for all delta pilots or just the ones that were on property when they announced the merger plans.. because delta just had a class start this week and they have one more next month , so 2 classes after the proposal and lets say this thing goes on for a while and for some luck delta starts hiring again, would all those pilots be under this 24 month no furlough plan..

Everyone has furlough protection...untill you get the letter.....

There is NO such thing as furlough protection.
