JetBlue Airtran App/Interview/Pool/Trng Timing?

I was wondering what the timing has been for folks from application, interview, hired notice, pool and start of training. I have a pretty good hack on SWA's pool from other threads, wondering about JetBlue, Airtran and maybe ATA (not sure they have had a pool) or any others. Thanks.

I've helped JetBlue clients who got called applied less than 10 weeks from interview. Had an AirTran guy who applied 3 months prior, and an ATA guy with only about 6 months in the system. FedEx pro instructor positions also happened very quick from app to call, but I don't know about exact times.

Good luck!

Albie,

Was that got called "you're hired" and into a pool or was it start of trng? Thx.

Applied in Spring/Summer 2002 at JetBlue, contacted in late August '03 for a Sept. 10th interview. I was one of the lucky ones to be offered a class in October...Wish I could figure out how they determine who is awarded an earlier/later class date. No clue.

Good luck.

Sniz,

My ATA timeline

My resume with LOR was mailed in by my ATA colleague on Sep 3rd 2003. I recieved an app on Sep 13th. I mailed my app back to ATA on Sep 18th. They cashed my check on Sep 26th. I didn't receive any acknowldgement card like some others have. I was called on Oct 15th for a Nov 3rd interview. I received an offer letter on Nov 14th. Been in the pool ever since and just got a call on Jan 12th for a Feb 2nd class date on the 757.

I think my time in the pool was longer than average due to the lack of any classes in Dec cause of the holidays. I think avg time in the pool would be 1 month.

Good luck!

Just curious. I see that your "current position" states Mr. Mom.
Were you furloughed/laid off while waiting for the ATA application/interview process?

I'm asking because I also applied to ATA (about 6 times a year ago) before finally I found a LOR and then started the whole procedure. I put in my app way back in Summer 2003 and have never heard another word. Trying to figure out what they were looking for etc. Got all the ratings, times etc and I have very neat handwriting also!

Thanks.

b757driver,

Yes, I was furloughed 1/1/02, haven't flown much since. Just the occasional 172. and a Pilatus PC12 for 60 hours, well over a year ago. Keeping quite busy as the full time stay at home dad of twin 2 1/2 year old boys (they were 5 months old when I started staying home)...I AM SOOOO READY TO GO BACK TO WORK!!!:D

I've read on this site that you can have your LOR buddy e-mail the company and see which stack your app is in. Either "to be called" or "non-competitive" if you're still waiting and curious.

Good luck

Thanks for the response. Just gives some hope to those of us in that other pool aka waiting to get an opportunity. I really don't want to have to go overseas (again) and fly the exact same aircraft as ATA.

My LOR said that my PIC time was on the low side, but I have stacks of SIC on two different jets, mostly international. Seems like everyone is going the SWA way in these times of competition. That's not surprising considering the number of times I have been laid off and had to start over. It's kinda of hard to accumulate lots of PIC time when you have been unemployed long term and no one has responded to your many efforts.
I wonder how it was possible to have gotten hired for a FO in all my previous jobs and then gotten the ratings - all without increase in my PIC time. I believe this is where the key is and also that ATA have hired a number of furloughed, yet current captains with 10k+ who are obviously more competitive.
And I thought that it's not always those who are technically more qualified than you that get hired. Must have been reading the wrong book........I'll keep dreaming.

By the way, I don't have children but can imagine what it was like to be Mr. Mom with your two. Now that is something that is grossly undervalued and should be worth @ least 50 points in an airline's screening application!!! Did they ask you about it in the interview and how did you answer? I bet you blew them away.

I'm glad you were successful after what you had been through. What's that old saying........Success comes to all those who are patient Good luck to you and yours & let's hope you don't have to repeat history. Lay offs and furloughs really suck!

My PIC time consists of 1025 hours on a Beech 1900 6 years ago, my last captain time.

My LOR came from a classmate of mine from college whom I've never flown with. He mentioned nothing about flying in the letter.

I don't think I'm more or less qualified than the 10's of thousands of pilots looking for a job these days. Whether they be furloughed major airline pilots(I am one), "regional" pilots looking for supposedly greener pastures(I used to be one), or military guys/gals who are tired of being shot at(I'm too chickensh*t to be one), there are just waaaayyy more people looking for jobs than there are jobs available right now.

I've had applications in at a few other places, including Jet Blue (I'm typed in the 320 and was flying it every day as an FO when I applied), for a couple of years and have heard nothing from them. It's just the nature of the market now..supply and demand.

ATA does offer one unique opportunity in the application process...the essay questions. These give you the chance to point out what's different about you and why they should interview you over the 7000 other resume's they recieve. No other airline gives you this opportunity, and I think it shows what kind of a company ATA is, they interview people who happen to be pilots, not the other way around. I think Jet Blue, and now SWA hire the same way, but don't pick who interviews this way. How can a computer pick a person? It is probably a cost saving tool for ATA as they hire about 66% of those that interview. Not sure what the percentage is a SWA or Jet Blue but I bet it's a little lower.

Like anyone's, my set of circumstances are unique to me. When answering the ATA essays I tried to paint an accurate picture of who I am, what decisions I've made, and how I've dealt with the consequences of those decisions. I guess they liked the picture.

As it turns out, I think I will be happier at ATA than I would have been anywhere else including where I got furloughed from, but that's just me and my preference for the type of flying/corporate culture that ATA offers.

Good Luck..stay focused.

Airtran and JetBlue Pools?

Acbarney,

Thanks for the ATA info....good on ya.

Airtran and Jetblue folks:

I think I have been able to pull some info off other threads about Airtran's pool timing. Has that been because of their new training ctr being built? Or do they and Jetblue maintain a pool of "hired" folks as a policy?
