anyone been to Tegucigalpa, Honduras airport?

I went into this lovely place the other day and found the dodge-the-mountain, go-down-the-valley approach quite interesting

the runway is also enjoyable with bumps and poor pavement

AA and CAL come in, along with COPA and some LET airplanes, the landings are something to see

Mhtg

Yes, MHTG or TGU is my favorite airport. I have landed there over 500 times, first in a 727-100 and the last seven years in a 757-200. A beautiful valley with a bunch of fantastic people. My retirement flight was there. I still Email our company manager there on a regular basis . A very different approach with little room for error. Don't ever land long, 5400 feet of useable runway with a 70 ft cliff at the end and of course they put a hill on the final approach so you don't make your final turn to the runway until below 200 feet. Our airline put this on the most restrictive list of any we fly into.

out of curiousity (sp?), what other airports fall into this category?

I am sure La Paz, Bolivia (been there, done that)

see ya

Belo Horizonte, Brazil was the only other airport we flew in to that the qual only lasted three months, then you needed a requal with a check airman. The dozen or so hit airports all were good for one year. TGU required three flights, one, at least, landing downhill to the north dodging that hill on final approach.

Was that a smaller airport near downtown Belo? I've seen it landing there.

The one I've been to seems painless, and also fairly new with a nice long runway. It's also pretty far out in the country.

Sorry, I went down and dusted off my flight bag and SPZO Cuzco, Peru was the only other airport we needed to fly to every three months to stay current. We only flew in there 6 months back in 98 I think. I've never been there. The day I retired I took my passport out of my flight bag, threw it in a corner of the garage and haven't opened it until today, 18 months later.
