Any AirTran negatives

Is there any truth about future hardships at AirTran? My friend just completed training and mentioned that management came to their class and described potential financial problems ahead. Some of the problems were fuel, LCC competition, wx in FL, and a Delta bankruptcy would allow them to restructure and compete in a different way.

Is management just laying the foundation to extend the current contract?

Thank you for your help, my friend said the positives far out weigh any negatives and that all of the pilots seem very pleased and that a few F/A are the only unhappy workers he has met.

While I'm sure management is somewhat worried about the future, I think 90% of that is pre-negotiation BS.

Management doesn't have to lie about that. Newsflash, there is future hardship at all major airlines, for about the next 20 years.

Since losing a combined 30 billion dollars since 9/11 ( all us airlines) I'm now labeling myself an ANALyst, and predicting future trouble possibly, when oil gets to $75.00/barrel

This is SOP for management. They come into a new hire class and preach doom and gloom in the hope that these new guys will have low expectations or no expectations for Contract 2005.

That all changes when these guys get on the line. These new hire pilots are not green. They've all been around the block of few times and don't get intimidated by any management B.S. They know they have reached their goal of becoming a major airline pilot and this is the final stop, so they are going to protect and enhance it. That previous regional stepping stone mentality goes right out the door along with any management brainwashing they heard while in class.
