Just spoke with a lead capt. who is still looking for a couple "highly qualified" Falcon 900/50EX pilots.

In a nutshell, 5k+ TT/1k+ DA-900/50 / Older pilots only(over 50) / job is on Long Island, NY.

PM me if anyone wants more details.

Quick question,

Is it common for flight departments to prefer "over 50" guys? Is this a request by the owners? Do they feel safer having older pilots as opposed to younger guys?

Thanks

No, not necessarily. Yes, it is. And yes they do but they'll never say that in public.

Well I guess I don't qualify:

8,000+ TT
~3,000 DA-900EX/DA-50EX
36 :Age

Where's Bobbysamd with his age discrimination argument now?

;)

If it makes you feel better, I am 49 and was just interviewed by
a reknown corporate flight department. The Chief pilot was older but the rest of the pilots were in the mid 30s.
I think the Chief liked me and had interest to hire me.
But, when they had the rest of the young flight department
intview me, I knew I would not have a snowballs chance in hell.

It was clear that they did not want bald and grey in their cockpit.
They had a problem with themselves being young and giving orders to an older experienced person.

They also thought I was a person from a local flight department who had a problem serving catering. Yikes!!!!
I am not an x-airline guy.

Possibly this is a two way street, I don't know. I always enjoyed flying with younger pilots, Captain or not.

I have paid a huge price to become an experienced pilot.
Possibly even sacrificing the ability to retire.

All I know is I did not like the way the younger folks got false information about me and used it for the intview.

Anyway, I think I am one of the funnest old gray haired bald boys around. Its to bad some folks can't see past the age.

In 1997, is was 42 years old with 4200 hours and plenty of good jet experience. The Corporations were only hiring young guys.
There seems to be more to getting hired than age. Possibly
having a good friend in the flight department could help.

So, what's fair anyway?

Cool... They both seem like good guys... I'm going to fly with each of them next week... Then turn them loose to the wolves!

Hope all is going well for you!!!

That's okay...I don't think they eat BBQ in Long Island, so you'd be miserable;)
This is true! I certainly am not looking to move, just thought the age thing was funny...

Just for reference I was hired at my company (Fortune 100) at 29... (I had absolutely no inside references/help)... My buddy got hired at 29 (2 years ago)... but the guy who was hired right after him was 49... We have a wide age range... from 30 to 59...

Age discrimination

If you had followed my age discrimination writings more closely, you'd recall that my that my age discrimination complaints have been limited strictly to commuter (regional) airlines and, specifically, how they discriminate against older career changers. I never claimed that regionals discriminate against pilots who already have years in the business (though I wouldn't doubt it if they do), nor did I say that the majors discriminate against pilots with years in the business, nor did I say that corporate discriminates against older pilots.

Once again, it is the regionals who discriminate against older career changers because of age.
