SWA, JBLU, AMR, DAL, CAL, NWAC, other non-Ch.11 carriers must match rates and attempt to remain competitive with US Air, who is on government funded welfare and is legally exempt from paying bills

...US Air, who is on government funded welfare and is legally exempt from paying bills

satpak 77, since you are in the know, please post the bills U is legally exempt from paying. That way I can balance them against the extra bills U has to pay because of ch11, and can make an educated comparison. Thanks.

And? Never worked for or liked USAir much myself but this is how the game is, and ALWAYS has, been played. This is how the system works. Lots of folks don't like it. So what. This is nothing new. They are abiding by the law as many other airlines have done in the past. Hell, check the list of the airlines that you said "now have to match rates?" See if any of them have been in BK. Then see how long they were in BK.

Yeah, they are paying all their bills.. Is that what your saying? Skykid?

Uh, no. What I'm saying is you should be able to back up what you post. While U is in negotiations with creditors there are certain bills going unpaid and there are debts that will be reduced in court. To post "legally exempt from paying bills" implies something different, doesn't it? SWA/FO?

uh?

dude, do a search, US Airways and its ATSB, Ch.11, etc etc lifeline have been discussed ad nauseum

How long are we gonna keep a company on life-support? Once? Twice? Three Ch.11's? More ATSB loans?

meanwhile, pilots take pay cuts so the company "can survive", and the non-Ch.11 companies then go to their pilots and say "look, we gotta stay competitive, your pay should be cut"

come on, wake up

I think your the one that needs to wake up acting like C11 is some new phenomenam. As far as the ATSB is concerned the ATSB board knew what USAir's position was when they loaned them the money. They F'd up. There were other airlines I feel deserved the money more than Airways but oh well. Look, the **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** ATSB even gave money to Midway EVEN THOUGH THEY WENT TITS UP BEFORE 9/11. That whole ATSB deal was a joke to begin with. As far as the "life support" is concerned, the creditors are giving them more time because that is obviously what's in the best interest of their money. They feel they can recoup more of their cash in the long run if they keep them going right now. Nothing wrong with that. Again, that's how this all works. It's business. Get comfortable with it. That's how it always has been. Nothing new here.

Dude, I don't need to search U, I've been keeping up. Are you going to post your list? How about the electric bill in CLT? You said they were "legally exempt from paying bills." Is that true or not? Do they have to pay attorneys for court appearances?

How long are we gonna keep a company on life-support? Once? Twice? Three Ch.11's? More ATSB loans?

You're right. I hereby demand that CAL park all of their aircraft because they were on "life support" twice. How dare they. I tell you what. I can give you evidence that the ATSB oversaw the giving of CASH MONEY to every single 121 operation. If you can give me the date and amount of an "ATSB loan" to U, I'll mail you a check for $1000.00. Deal?

"On March 31, 2003, US Airways closed on a $1 billion loan supported by a $900 million Federal loan guarantee."

Aha! Loan GUARANTEE! I just got all confused when satpak posted the ATSB had been loaning money, I'm sure he knows the difference and knows where that money came from.

Here's my point. A lot of people want to begrudge U the loan GUARANTEE, half of them think it's a government LOAN. The other half want to pretend they know the government will be on the hook for the whole thing if and when they are called on a default. You don't know that. Both halves work for companies who received govment cheese after 9/11.

You guys are right..they are paying their legal bills. Got me there. Everything is well at U. Sorry, I read so much into this "normal chapter 11" process....

I should have known this is how it works, I mean I read hard landings.

count me in also...

yeah me too, I am a moron. I mean with all the Ch.11 airlines operating out there, shame on me to think that all the airlines are on equal footing and no one has an advantage over the other....

I forgot that US Airways and UAL is indeed paying for bankruptcy attorneys

silly me, retard

I'm not a BK lawyer, but I pulled this off this month's SEC filing.

Can we kill this thread now?

Looks like they are paying something to someone. Silly retard.

328dude, on your way down to the 'Payments to Professionals,' did you notice a heading titled Operating Expenses? Well, I'm going to go way out on a limb, and I'm just guessing now, but those just might be bills. Here's the deal, and I'm counting on you for this satpak and SWA/FO - get in touch with somebody at U mgt and let them know they don't need to have anything in the Operating Expenses section - only payments to professionals. Thanks guys!

Satpak and SWA/FO, first you claim U doesn't pay any bills, now it looks like you recognize they have to pay attorneys. Any idea what these columns from their latest 8-k mean?

Personnel costs

Aviation fuel

US Airways Express capacity purchases

Aircraft rent

Other rent and landing fees

Selling expenses

Aircraft maintenance

Depreciation and amortization
