I just want to make sure that I am clear on a few things.

THanks for any input!!!

-All newhires are typed on their ATP (US) certificate on their airplane assignment?

-How long do you think it will take someone to get back to the US?

-How many hours do you fly per month & how does an SO log time? I figure it is SIC while in the relief duty.

THanks!!!!

No stick time for two years? I don't call that SIC. It's more like autopilot masturbation.

Second Officers are NOT typed (what the FAA deems a type rating) on aircraft anymore, and First Officers and Captains do NOT recieve their type on the FAA certificate. Your FAA certificate, if hired by Cathay means nothing. If you are hired, you will have to convert your ratings to HKCAD. The types when applicable, will go on HKCAD certificates.

Captains Underpants and Center can back me up on this.

So I will never have the type on my certificate? FAA ATP?

Thanks

as far as I know..

The second officers will get a type rating, but it'll have a restriction> no take off's or landings allowed> so that won't get you anywhere.

As far as logging time, some of the european airlines won't let you log ANY time. But the local aviation authority just extends your validity of your license every year, since the airline saves a bunch of money by having an S/o besides a relief F/o

As far as getting it on your FAA certificate, some airlines use "general outsourced training centers" which probably also have FAA examiners there, so that you'll be able to get it also on your FAA cert. But a company like Cathay? I wouldn't count on it

As mentioned, it is a limited rating on an HK ATPL. You do train for all phases of flt. and you are checked every 6. If hired by CX for the pax operation, they expect you there for your entire career. You are eligable to apply for an F.O. postion after 18 months. In their Feb 04 round of 2nd interviews for 2nd officer positions, they accepted like 1 in 20. These are expenses paid interviews in HK. If they sense that you are a short timer, you won't get to the 2nd interview anyway and if that is your intention, they will know.

I don't work for CX but I have worked in that part of the world and I have several good friends that do work for them. I also have several well qualified, JAA typed and experienced that have been rejected.
Good luck.

Little off the subject but it seems you guys may know the answer to this. My wife received a call from Cathay to schedule an interview late on April second. Of course I was not home. The lady from Hong Kong said she would try later. Is this a blow off and they are moving on or are they going to call again? Also, Should I call them?

Hawkerjock,
Call them, look at www.pprune.org forms under "Fragrent Harbor Wannabes". There is a contact name and # in one of the threads.
They don't call if they are not interested.
